Trustee meetings are held by Zoom every 4 to 6 weeks. The monthly report relating to the progress of the children and any issues relating to the operation of the orphanage in Uganda are discussed. The treasurer provides a financial statement with an update of accounts. Actions are classified as short/medium/long term, and are reported on.
TPC Uganda is a CIO, and also an NGO in Uganda. The constitution was last amended on 1[st] December 2014. The appointment of new Trustees is carried out by the existing Trustees.
Charity’s Mission Statement: Love, care and a home for Ugandan orphans.
Objects of The Peace Centre:
To promote the benefit of orphaned and vulnerable children and young people living at The Peace Centre in Bukinda, South West Uganda by:
- a. The advancement of education and training;
- b. The relief of poverty, sickness and training;
- c. The promotion of good health.
To advance in life and help young people through providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.
There should be at least one visit to The Peace Centre in Uganda each year by a Trustee, but this will depend upon prevailing conditions.

Operational Developments during 2020-21

The Peace Centre continues to fully support 36 children (of which 4 are in further education), and a further 30 on a school only basis during this period.
We have continued to employ all staff during this period, with their efforts being channelled into the community when the children have been absent.
The operation of The Peace Centre during this period has been hugely disrupted by the Covid-19 epidemic. At various points the orphanage and schools have been completely closed. Whilst the capacity of the buildings is 40 children, the occupancy has varied from 36 to zero.
During the periods when children have been moved out to carers within the community, TPC staff have continuously visited them to monitor their well-being, behaviour and academic workbooks.
Care packages including food and soap/disinfectant were delivered to children’s homes during these visits.
During the ongoing lockdown, children have been developing their handicraft skills such as knitting sweaters and scarfs and making wicker baskets.
Staff have encouraged the children to engage in agriculture and rearing domestic animals within their community during these lockdowns.
All staff have been immunised against Covid-19, and it is hoped that schools will reopen in January 2022.
Special fundraising events were held to raise additional funds to provide food for vulnerable people in the Bukinda communities. TPC staff and older children handled the food distribution logistics. The local community are very grateful as it is the only source of such help, and hunger is their greatest problem at present. Approximately 50,000 meals were provided by this initiative.
TPC has been approved by the Uganda Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development to operate as an official childrens home. It is the only such home in the area, and this national recognition gives TPC opportunities to operate in other sub-counties in the Rukiga district in future. It also increases the legal protection of all the children in the home in the eyes of Ugandan law.
A one-day youth workshop was held with career guidance and motivational talks by guest speakers. These involved all resident children, school-only sponsored children and some schoolchildren from the community. This initiative was arranged because TPC staff felt that students had spent a long time without any formal guidance.
In partnership with an organisation called Days for Girls, training has taken place for all the girls at TPC on how to make their own sanitary products. 150 girls, both from TPC and in the community attended. This initiative provides improved sanitary hygiene and reduces school absence for girls in TPC and in the wider Bukinda community.
The existing water supply from a well on the site as been improved by the addition of a water purification plant. There is now a supply of drinking water on tap at all times.
A baking oven has been installed to allow all children to gain experience in cooking and breadmaking.
It has been necessary to resurface the drive within TPC. The surface of the drive had deteriorated to the extent that it was dangerous and causing flooding in the wet season.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/10/21

Responsibilities and basis of As the charity trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance report with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my statement attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect,:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act; or
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
