2.5 Major events, progress and achievements of the Charity throughout the year

Covid restrictions severely curtailed our programs and community contacts. We had to embrace the “work from home” ethic and develop electronic communications. We managed to set up, and continue to use, a network of video sessions for spiritual and pastoral events. Since the relaxation of Covid restrictions we have increased the number of activities held in person, both at the Temple and on invitation to people’s homes. The monthly Poya (full moon) program has been restarted and a series of Poojas following the “wet season” has been implemented. This will culminate in the major Kathina ceremony to be held in October. We are still running Sunday schools on zoom as this provides an effective method for reaching many younger members of the Community. The major cultural and spiritual events are once again being planned. The search for a new Temple continues and updates are sent from the steering committee on a regular basis.

2.6 How our activities deliver public benefit

With the advent of Covid, we had to develop a revised method of service delivery. Using Zoom and other video conference facilities, we quickly established the communal link-up. We could deliver services to individuals or small groups and classes. We enabled the community to remain connected. It was also enabling to some new members as the distances involved precluded travel at the time so contacting us and joining in with activities was easier. It was significant that maintaining contact helped with minimizing any sense of isolation that was reported from some quarters. We are proud that we have weathered Covid and we are still providing our services to a wide area and diverse population. We hope to be back to full, in person where needed, spiritual and pastoral operations by the end of 2022.
