Westerhope Community Association CIO Hillhead Road, Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne NE5 1NE Registered Charity No 1160512

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31st MARCH 2025

The Trustees present their annual report for the year ending 31st March 2025:

Westerhope Community Association CIO

The Charity was established on 16th February 2015 in order to facilitate the process of an asset transfer of a Community Centre and parkland from Newcastle City Council to the Trustees who have managed the facilities since 1977. It was the decision of the City Council that any asset transfer must be to a registered charity with Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) status, thus the formation of this charity.

Currently, the Centre and the site is managed by Westerhope Community Association, registered charity number 1044378. The Trustees of this existing charity and the CIO are identical.

At 31st March 2025 and at the time of submission of this Report, the terms of any asset transfer have yet to be determined. Therefore, Westerhope Community Association CIO has remained dormant with any trading for the Centre continuing under the original charity.

Financial Report for the period ending 31st March 2025

As a dormant charity there has been no income or expenditure attributable to the CIO nor any fees or expenses paid or received. The charity holds no assets.

Details of the financial management of the current charity are lodged with the Commission.

Objectives and Activities

It is the objective of Westerhope Community Association CIO, when active, to continue to offer the residents of Westerhope and adjoining areas a place to meet socially and enjoy a wide range of activities including education, sport, fitness, leisure and health and provide a focal point for involvement in key matters affecting the Community.

Structure, Governance and Management

Trustees are appointed by nomination at the AGM in accordance with the Trust Deeds. No external organisation has the right to nominate a Trustee.

During the full year the Trustees were:

D J L Armstrong (Chair) – appointed chair 29.11.21

A Bell P Bell K Burn D Hodgson – appointed 14.12.21 R McCall

During the period ending 31st March 2025 no Trustee received remuneration or other benefits for their work with the charity.

Policies, Management structures and administrative details are those of Westerhope Community Association, the current managing body.

Risks and Opportunities

The greatest risk to the charity and its objectives is the desire of the local authority to divest itself of the financial responsibilities of managing community buildings. Whilst an asset transfer would not appear to be a practical problem for the Trustees, the withdrawal of any financial support for managing the buildings and parkland would be of significant financial consequence to the Trustees ability to continue. There are no current discussions taking place on the matter of an asset transfer. The lease on the buildings and land expired on 11-7-2018. Since that time the current charity continues to manage the facilities as the “tenant in situ”.
