Oblectivgs and activities
Objects and aims
The charitable objective of the charity is 'lor the benefit of th& public to relieve the Suffering of
miniature She11and ponies in need of care and attention and. in particular. lo provide and maintain
rescue home or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of 8uch ponies,.
In the last year we have cared for 59 ponies. of which 11 were new arrivals linGluding some ponies
that have been returned from their losler homes) and have been rehomed. All have been provided
with suitable grazing and addf(ional feed. hay and supplements as appropriate. All receive regular
veterinary treatment including vaccinations. worming and dental care. In addition, several ponies have
been treated lor ongoing chronic conditions. and many others need specialist management lo control
laminitis.
Purpose built stables, the new barn which is nèaring completion for the sentor ponie5 and some which
have more complex mecsical needs, a sand lum out area, and an enrichment mud-conlrolled mat area
are available for those which need it and field shelters 3Te also provided. In addition, a large concrete
area around the barn is used in adverse weather conditions. We have had a track system installed for
use primarily by our laminilic ponies and this track 15 being eonlinued around our 12.>acTe sile, it 1$
still under construction. All ponies are checked and handled daily by our team of volunteers, including
our Yard Assistants who 81s0 ensure that all facilities are kept ¢￿an and safe.
We are conts¢ted regularly by members of the public reporting ponies in need or requesting help lor
their own ponies owing to personal circumstances. In choosing those most in need, the Trustees have
regard for the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Whets the physical 8nd behavioural condit￿n of the ponies is sullable, we seek long4erm foster
homes. which are rigorously checked both before énd after place￿￿nt

Financial rgview
The financial statements and the accounting policies used in theif preparation comply wlh all th8
current statutory requirements and with the governing document.
The Statement of Financial Activ(ties shows the charity had a total income of £360,806 12024:
£228,498) and lolal expendrture of £247,621 12024.. £183.3751 during the period. Income exceeded
expenditure in the period by £113.18512024.' £45.1231.
The total reseNes held at the year end were £409,914 (2024.. £296,729). Of this £93,900 12024:
£33,517) was restricted.

Nature of govemlng docum•nt
Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue is a charitable ineorporatsd organisation govemed by a
Gonstilulion dated 16 February 201 S. The charity 1$ managed by a group of up to 8 Trustees who are
appoinlgd by the existing Trustees.
Oryanlsatlonal structure
Munchkins have now 3 self*mployed people. 2 of whom a8$i$l in the adminislralion and 1 assists
WTth Social Media and photography, the vast majority are volunteers of whom there are currently 130
adults on roll. plus teenage helpers al the weekends. Most come regularly every week, providing
hands-on help with the ponies. We have and do welcome volunteers with additional needs including
their caierslsupport wot1(ers, plus D of E. wolk experfence.
Others perfom adminislrative task¥ or help to maintain the facilities. Others help on special
occasions, notably the annual summer fayre and other fund-raising activities. The Trustees wish to
record On￿ again their grateful thanks for the hard work, dedication and commitment of 211 our
volunteer5.
Statement of trustees. re$ponsibillties
The Iruslees (who are also the directors of Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue for the purposes of
cotnpany Jawl are responsible for preparing the trustees, report and the financial statements in
accordance with applicablo law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accounting Pr8cti¢el, including FRS 102 "The Financral Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Irelan(r'.
Conipany law requires the trustees lo prepare financial slalements for each financial year. Under
company law the trustees musl not approve the financial statements unless they are satisfied that
they give a true and fair view of the slate of affairs of the charitable eompany and of the incoming
resources and applicat￿n of resources, including ils income and expenditure. of the charitable
company for that period. In preparing these financial stslgrnents, the Iruslees are required lo..
solect suitable acGounling policies and apply them consislentjy.,

The Iruslees aro responsible for keepin9 proper accounting records that can disclose with reasonable
accuiacy al any time the financial position of the charitable company and enable them lo ensure that
the financial statements comply wilh the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the charitable Company and hen¢e for taking reasonable steps for the
prevention and detection ol fraud and other irregulaiilies.
The trustees are responsible for the maintenance and inlegrty of the eorporate and financial
information included on the charitable companls website, Legislation governing the preparation and
dissemination of financial slalemènls may differ from legislation in otherjurisdi¢lions.

The principal accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial slalemenls are sel out
below. Thes& policies have been consistently applied lo all the years presented, unless otherwise

Statement of Compliance
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Aeeounling and Reporting by
Charities.. Statement of R&commended Pradice (applicable to charities preparing their a¢counls in
accordance with thè Financi81 Reporting Slandard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS
10211 (issued in October 20191 - (Charities SORP IFRS 10211, the Financial Reporting Stsndard
applicable in the UK and RepLtblic of Ireland {FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
8asis of preparation
Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue meets th8 definition of a publ￿ benefit entity under FRS 102.
Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or tr8nsaclion value unless otherwise
stated in the relevant aecounling policy notes.
Going concern
The trustees consKler that ther8 are no material uncertalnties about the chartys abilty to continue as
a going concern nor any signfficant areas of uncertainty that affect the carrying value of assets held by
the charity.

There are judgements or key sources of eslimalion uncertainty that have a signrficanl risk of
causing a material adjustment to assets and liabilities to be disclosed.
Income and èndowments
All income is recognised once the charty ha3 entitlement lo the income, il is probable that the income
11 bè feceived and the amount of the Income re￿1vabl$ can be measured reliabty.
Donations and lega¢i•s
Donations are recognised when the chanty has been notified in wri(ing of both the amount and
settlement date. In the event that a donation is subject to condillons that require a ￿Ve1 of
perfomiance by the chaiity before the charity is entitled lo the funds. the income is deferred and not
recognised until either those conditions are fully met. 01 the fuifilmenl of those condilions is wholly
within the control of the charity and it is probable that these condiligns will be fulfilled in Ihe reporting
period.
Grants receivable
Grants are recognised when the charty has an ent￿ement lo the funds and any conditions linked to
the grants have been mel. Wherg performance conditions are attached lo the grant and are yel to be
met, the income is rewgnised as a liability and included on the balance sheel as deferred income lo
to released.
Inv¢$tment Incomo
Dwidends arè re¢ognised once thg diwdend has been declared and notif￿tion has been recefved ol
the dividend due.
Expenditure
All expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or conslruclive obligation lo that expenditure, il is
probable settlement is required and the amount be measured reliably. All costs are allocated to
the applicable expenditure heading that aggregate similar costs to thal ¢alegory. Wheig Costs cannot
be dirgctly attributed lo particular headings they have been allocated on a basis consistent with the
use of reSou￿es, with central staff costs allocated on the basis of time spent. and depreciation
charges allocated on the portion of the asseV8 use. Other support costs are allocated based on the
spread trf staff costs.
Charitable actlvltle8
Charitable expenditure eomprises those costs incurred by the charity in tho delivery of ils aciivities
and services for its beneficiaries. 11 includes both Costs that can be allocated diredly tQ such activities
and Ihgse costs of an indirect nalure necessary to support them.

These include the costs attributsble lo the charivs compllance with unstitutional and stslutory

expenses.
Taxatlon
The charity is considered lo pass the tests set out in Paragraph 1 Schedule 6 of the Finance A¢1 2010
and therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK corporation lax purposes.
Accordingly. the Charity is potentially exempl from laxalion in respect of income or capital gains
received wthin categories covered by Chapter 3 Part 11 of the Corporation Tox Act 2010 or Section
256 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Aet 1992, to the extent that such income or gains are
applied exclusively to charitable purposes.

Interesl-bearing borrowings are initially re￿reed al fair value, net of transaction costs.
Interesl-bearing borrowings are subsequently carried al amortised cost, with the difference between
th& proceeds. nel of transaction costs. and the amount due on redemption being recognised as a
charge to the Statement of Financial Activities over th& period of the relevant borrowing.
Interest expense is recognised on the basis of the effeclivg interest method and is included in inleresl

Borrowings are classified as current liabilrties unless the charity has an unconditional right to defer

19 Related party transactions
The land that the Charity operates on was owned by Paul and Tammy M8rx. In June 2024 this land
was purchased in the fomi of a loan from the trustee.
At the end of the year there was a balance of £225,48912024'. £224,675) owed by the Ch8rity lo Paul
and Tammy. Tammy is a current trustee of the Charity.
