charitable objectrves ar• also set out in order to prowde a clear and dernonstrab￿ public benefit.
6. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Folbwing reslridions on the chall￿$ activitres due lo the covid pandemic, 2022 repr8sgntsd a record
fundraising year for 40tude. In 2023. with conditions normalising, retumed to the level that have been
typ￿alty witnèssed in years prior to the pandemic. With a large numb8r of organlsed challonges and
Y￿th many gènerous domlons from supporters the charty generated total Income through fundrai$ing
of £326,430 in 2023.
In a busy year of ffve 40tude organised events, w8 are grateful to supporter6 who t¢Jok up th8 variou$
challenggs.. the Mardi Himal Expedition ID Nepal in April 2023, the Muckle Flugga Challenge on
Bromplon Bikes and inflatabl& kayaks In the Shetland Isles in June, and tha Carpalhian Mountain
Challange and the Colmar Cyde Challenge both in Séptember. In April 40tude hosted a charty golf
event in the north of Scotland.
In October 40tude was delvjhted lo b8 ch08en a$ a bersefickgry of the extraordinary Try lo the Fin
challenge.. lo swim, run. row and cycle from London to Paris in fve days to tiincide with the final of
the Rugby Workl Cup. The team, led by Stuart Th￿ft and Budge Pountney. was packed with
friends and ex-playing colleagues of Tom Sm(th and Doddie Weir, both late Scottish rugby legends.
Torn Smith, 40tude's Ambassador untll his Untime￿ death in April 2022 from colon cancer at tha age
of 50, wa$ a former Scotland and British Lion intsmauonal. 40tude is proud of its on-ping assocration
th Tom, was determined lo use his diagnosis to raise awareness of the symptoms of cdon
ancer and lo promote the importance of regular sGreening. Through the team's efforts. £21,000 was
mi8ed for 40tude. Vve are grateful also for the on4Joing asstscialion with this remarkable group of
people.
Dundee Rugby Club al80 paid tribLrtO to Tc*n Smith by holding 8 Spgcial event in hi5 memcry,
generous￿ raising £6.000 for 401ude. A number of individual initiatives. many inspired by Tom Smith,
also supportad 40tude through the year for whioh the Trustèes are extremely gra1￿Ul. They8
supporters raised £26,000 in 2023.
Over 100 employees of Bridggpoint, one of the world's lèading private asset inveslmenl emipanies,
chose 40tude lo benefrt from their multi4ay Ajpine Challenge. Their efforts raised £31.000 for 40tude.
40tude started with a London to Paris bike ride, which was expeclad lo be a 'one and done" event.
So, rt was fitting that Stuart storey and Piotr Wqda Comp￿ted RideLondon for 40tude in May, and,
0150. long-time supporter. Rob Orr, complèted Lands. End lo John O'Groats in Juty raising £11.SLKI in
the process.

A number of these researth projects and programmes are r0ilaboratfv￿s with other Prfreminent
organi$ot1o￿ including The Royal Marsden Hospital and the Instituta of Cancer Research.
40tude provided £428,919 in funding to support these initiative8 In the ygar.
Al the end of the peric<l the charity had cash avaikble of £452,686 foi future charitable funding and
the adminislralKJn of the chanty.
AloNJside funding of reSea￿h into bowel cancer, the charity has continued lo raY6e awareness of the
disease and communicate its Core messag9 to encourage individuals to undertake regular bower
Screening. particularfy those aged 45 and above. We usad the 40tthJe Challenge events. and the
marketing around them. as a way of doing so. The charity also promoted rts massages through its
wobsile {wry¥w.40tude.org.ukl and through the use of $QCHI media.
7. BRIEF STATEMENT OF THE CHARrrYs poucy ON RESERVES
We held cash in bank of £452.686 * the end of the peri¢)d of which £312,382 was hekl on dgposit
th the balarKg held in unrestrieted fvnds. These funds are hebj in order to ￿ler working capital and
short-lerm expenses to operate the charlty and also lo ￿Ver Current and future commitments to fund
research projects and to furthèr advance the objects"v8s of the charity.
8. FINANCIAL REVIEW
As described above. the majotity of income is applied to research projects led by SL Mark's Hospital
Foundation, costs reiating to the fundraising events and to staff costs. We keep staff costs low by
emplowng a sinyle manager of the chanty and then buylng specialist seNces from o(tside provideis
Yknoro required.
The trustses contrc4 the Gharty funds. The attaGhed financkql statements the eurrent State of
finances, which the Irust88s consider to be SOLrnd.
The financial ststgments compty with the Charitie$ Act 2011 and Accounting and Re￿ling by
Charit*s.' Statement of Recommended Practice applicabb to charities preparing their accounts in
accordance with Ihe Financkal ReportirKJ Standard applicable to the UK and Republic of Ireland
published on 16 July 2014. the Gharitls goveming document and have been prepared in accordance
with th2 a¢￿untIng policles set out in the notes to the financial ststemenls.
