**TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING 31[st] DECEMBER 2021**

**THE OBJECTS OF THE SOCIETY** : To promote for the benefit of the nation the preservation of public transport vehicles and items of allied transport interest which are of historic and educational value. Also, the education of the general public of the history of public transport in the Leeds area. Further details are given in the Society’s constitution, a copy of which may be obtained by application to the Hon. Secretary.

## **THE TRUSTEES** :

- I. M. Dougill (Chairman) Until 9[th] August 2021,

- J. M. Hindes (Vice Chairman),

- J. B. Holmes (Secretary),

- A. Cowell (Treasurer),

- M. J. Waring,

- M. Reuben (Acting Chairman from the 16[th] August 2021),

- C. Walker,

- S. Reuben (Co-opted by the Committee from the 4[th] October 2021)

The Trustees (apart from S. Reuben) were elected at the Annual General Meeting held on 12th April 2021 and form the Society’s Committee. All Trustees serve in an honorary capacity and are elected annually. Twelve meetings of the Committee were held during the year.

**INCOME AND EXPENDITURE:** This came from a variety of sources including the sale of the Society’s books and photographs, models, DVDs, and donated second-hand books. Items were sold through the internet, society meetings, and at transport-related events. Copies of the audited accounts for the Society are available from the Secretary at the registered address.

**SALES STANDS:** We attended only three events from September onwards where we had sales stands, these were at Pudsey Civic Hall and the Grammar School at Leeds, both in October 2021, and at the Dewsbury Bus Museum in November 2021. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic all other events up to September 2021 were cancelled by their organisers.

**PUBLICATIONS:** The Society did not publish any new books this year, although it has two works in preparation, which were started by the late Jim Soper and are being completed by members of the Committee. Book sales were slow until September when restrictions for Covid-19 pandemic were partially lifted and Sales Stand opportunities arose.

**RESTORATION WORK:** The Society has no major project ongoing; Leeds Horse Tram 107, presently owned by the LTHS, is on display at the National Tramway Museum at Crich, awaiting modifications to allow the tram to be used for heritage services at the museum.

**GENERAL ACTIVITIES:** Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Society only held five face-to-face general meetings, from August to December 2021. The other seven meetings from January to July, were held by Zoom Conferencing on the Internet, being hosted by various members of the Society.

**VISITS:** Due to the pandemic no visits could be organised until September 2021, when a Society coach trip was held to the National Tramway Museum at Crich, Derbyshire. The visit included the unveiling of a brass plaque in memory of Jim Soper, a founder member of the Leeds Transport Historical Society and its archivist, and for his work at Crich including the “Red Lion” public house of which he had been the architect.

**Ian Dougill:** On Tuesday 10[th] August 2021 Ian, LTHS Chairman, was found dead at his house in Cookridge by his twin brother and sister-in-law. Ian had been an LTHS trustee for many years and Chairman for the last ten years. He was also a former Secretary of the Tramway Museum Society, and a keen volunteer there, as a tram driver and sales assistant in their gift shop. Since late 2021, LTHS members have been clearing LTHS property from his house.

**Harold Pullan:** During December 2021, we heard the sad news that another of our longstanding members had been found dead at home. Harold had attended most of our general meetings and most of our visits.
