OXENHOPE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
CHAIRMAN AND TRUSTEES REPORT2020
The Corvid pandemic has greatly disrupted the operation of Oxenhope Community Centre in 2020. The year started well with all the regular activities taking place in the centre but once lockdown occurred in March everything stopped. The community centre was locked down from March until September when Pre-School was able to resume its services.
The Community Centre was assessed for reopening in the September. The main concern in the building was the toilets which are accessed by a narrow corridor. Signs were installed to warn users of the narrow corridors and for only one person at a time to use the toilets. Entry to the building could be controlled and Pre-school were able to operate an entry system by staggering entry and exit times to maintain safe distances.
The resumption of Pre-school also presented a challenge in the need to ensure cleaning services were more thorough given that the Covid virus could be transmitted via surfaces such as doorhandles and switches. The cleaner for the centre had given up providing a service earlier in the year so the decision was taken to employ a new cleaning service and to increase the amount of time allocated to the task.
The Corvid lockdown resulted in loss of income from bookings while running costs were maintained. Once the new cleaning service started costs greatly increased. The Community Centre has survived the lockdown through a grant from Bradford Council.
