TRUSTEES REPORT 2023

Last year saw us see the menace of Covid subside and our Group continued to thrive. Our monthly meetings which were largely held via Zoom were able to change to ‘face to face’ meetings although no summer Group visits went ahead. Our fieldwork team that had previously adapted to Covid restrictions was now able to have full freedom again.

It is hoped that this year will be more favourable and Jef Tucker is working on the programme of speakers for the meetings from Sept 2023 through to next years’ AGM in April 2024 and also several summer activities.

Our membership numbers remain very healthy with a total of 97 sole members and 12 joint members. As you are aware, the cost of membership has remained unaltered since the Group started ie Single £10, joint or family £15 and students £7. We said last year that this remains exceptional value and members can take advantage not only of the monthly meetings but the Annual Report, bi-monthly Newsletters as well as the annual excavation and summer activities.

It is anticipated that the Annual Excavation will go ahead again this year at the existing site near Brockenhurst. Members will be circulated by Professor Tony King, our Director, later in the year.

You will note from the Accounts dated 31[st] December 2022 that our bank balance remains very healthy and we remain in a good financial condition.

The Trustees feel that we continue to meet our aims as set down in our Constitution ie. protect the archaeology and history of the Forest in these changeable times, produce reports and research and record via our Fieldwork Team.

There will be a change this year as Anthony Pasmore has completed his three year term as Chairman as set down in our constitution and there will be an election for his successor. We will also need to re-elect the other oficials and Committee members. Last year Stuart Bloom took over from Sylvia Crocker as Treasurer.

If any member is interested in involving themselves in the running of the Group by becoming a Committee member please email Jef Tucker before the AGM on 6[th] April 2023. We are also always looking for members to take part in our weekly fieldwork activities.

The Trustees 23rd March 2023

Anthony Pasmore Chairman, Jef Tucker Hon.Secretary and Stuart Bloom Hon.Treasurer
