Activities include running workshops and giving tuition both in schools and within the wider community. We provide the loan of free pans for schools to startthelf groups going. We provlde opportunltles for steelpan players of all ages to perform in public. We provide opportunities for all members of society to participate in music levem rnance We have continued to work wlth schools across the region, and have invlted other children to join our youth band. Our largest growth this year ha5 been within the adult bands. There are two bands In Brighton for adults and three at Angmering. Progress between the dlfferent bands has been encouraged with several of the beginners band having moved to the Intermedlate band and some of the Intermedlate players Jolning the communlty band. The Community band were once again invitsd to play at the Swanage Carnlval, which was very successful and led to further bookings. Funds of £ 401, from a busk, was donated to Children in Need. All the Sussex Steel bands played at the Chrlstmas event held at a l(xal Church. Our Funrtion Band is now up and running r futur rl We will contlnue to work with schools and the communlty, providing free access to steelpans where necessary. The Community Band will play aqain over two days at the Swanage Carnlval/Regatta. We will continue to build Ilnks with other community groups and organisations. Page 2
SUSSEX STEEL Trustees Annual Report and Accounts for the 12 Months Ended 31 December 2024 Plan Provide further opportunities for players to perfomi in public, allowing them to build up their confidence and gain performance experiences at different types of events To celebrate the charlty's 20th anniversary next year. a large showcase performance is planned at the Worthlng Pavillion Theatre, which will include an Alumin Band as well a5 all the current bands from Angmering and Brighton. Members from across the Sussex Steel groups will be invited to attend workshops for rnas5 bands including a workshop with guest tutor Kishan .Fln The Charity made an operating surplus of just under £ 8k In the year, which was in line with expectatlons and slmilar to the pevlous year. Membershlp continues to grow generating Increased tuition income. Investment in new pans and other musical equlpment increased to £ 5.7k In the year. The Trustees recognise the need to invest in new and replacement pans and other musical equipment. The Restriced fund has been increased to £6k to meet these demands, leavlng £ 17.lk of unrestriced funds atthe year end. The Trustees are satisfied with the financlal posltlon of the charity at the period*nd, and are confident that the current level of funding will be sufficlent to enable the charity to continue in accordance wlth its objectives. The chariV5 trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 14412) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responslblllty to: examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Art. to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under sectlon 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and to state whether partlcular matters have come to my attention. My examlnation was carried out in accordance with general dlrectlons given by the Charty Commlsslon. An examlnation includes a review of the accountln8 records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or dlsclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanation5 from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provlde all the evidence that would be requlred in an audit, and consequently no oplnlon 1$ given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fairf view and the report Is Ilmlted to those matters set out In the statement below.
