1. Charitable Objects
In summary our charitable objects are to
-
¥ promote and support the advancement of education in The Gambia
-
¥ advance the education of the UK public in issues facing those in The Gambia v_ prevent or relieve poverty to individuals living in The Gambia
2. Activities during in the year
This section summarises briefly the work that was carried out during the year, and fuller details can be seen on our website at https://www.projectgambia.org.uk/
Trips
Due to pandemic restrictions, it has not been possible to visit The Gambia during the year.
Covid Response
The pandemic has had serious financial consequences in The Gambia with tourism being virtually non-existent, leaving many Gambians with little or no income. In response to this crisis Project Gambia supported by funding:
-
Y a ‘furlough scheme’ for staff at the schools we work in partnership with
-
v the distribution of hundreds of food packages containing rice, beans, oil and soap, in communities struggling to feed themselves
-
v the continued operation of the Project Gambia vehicle so that our activities could continue
School Feeding Programme
A school feeding programme was launched in November in partnership with the Gambian charity Grace Foundation. The programme provides free school meals daily to around 400 children who would otherwise not attend school, thereby missing out on education and being vulnerable to safeguarding risks.

Container
As in previous years we sent a 40ft container containing a wide range of items to support schools and communities. Due to Covid restrictions the container did not arrive until early January, however the students in our partner schools greatly appreciated their Christmas shoeboxes. The educational supplies on the container are now being used to benefit children’s education in Gambian schools.
Project Gambia Shop
The Project Gambia shop continues to sell high quality second-hand clothes donated by supporters in the UK, thereby raising funds that are used to support:
- Y paying the school fees of children in local schools Y building a new classroom block in Madiana Y urgent welfare support for families
Baby Packs
We continue to provide baby packs containing blankets, nappies, baby clothes, wet wipes etc for Sintet Health Centre. The provision of these packs has seen the reduction in home deliveries and as a result has reduced the infant mortality rate.
Supporting Schools
In addition to the work outlined above we continue to support schools through:
-
Y sponsoring 52 children to attend the Hanne Vibe Nursery School
-
Y the building of a three-classroom block with toilets at Omega school
