## The Poirier Foundation Chair Report for AGM 24/9/25 The Poirier Foundation continues to be true to its motto "Our Community, Our Care". Going all the way back then to April 2024 the cost of living crisis was still very much with us as our Warm Place initiative had just ended. We still had funds left thanks to folk donating throughout, and we began to plan for **Warm Place 2025** and to look for other possible ways of providing help in the community. Trinity’s Leadership agreed again to allow us to hire their hall for 2 days per week between Jan and March 2025 when we could invite people there typically from 10am to 3pm. These dates would be incorporated into the already fixed dates for Lunch & Linger (and Winterton Disabled Club). As last year the benefits in mind were 1. Users wouldn’t have to heat their homes across the day, saving on fuel 2. There was a light lunch provided 3. They were able to socialise. In the end we had 438 attendances in total during 18 sessions. We routinely served soup, sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks although on some occasions we went a little further with baked potatoes, steak pie and peas and of course the ever popular fish & chips. Craft and Robot races African Drumming session Concert with Helen We were glad to have valuable volunteers including Margaret, Linda, Cindy, Kathy, Petar, Carol, Gillian and Denise. So even as we finished Warm Place we were making plans and seeking grants for Warm Place during the first part of 2026. As before, we will be looking for extra volunteers to assist with the sessions. There is much need out there, and we are well aware that there are numerous activities we could take on given money and volunteers. At the Disabled Club Charity Fair where we had a display, many people were making complimentary remarks. Now for **Lunch & Linger** which continues fortnightly uninterrupted with only one break; at Christmas and New Year! The welcome extended across our catchment area for folk to come and enjoy a good nutritious meal with us. Stuart our chef consistently blessed us with top quality cuisine. Gillian, Denise, Cindy and Petar helped in the kitchen. We’re always so grateful for these our hard working volunteers. The Linger time before the lunch hasn’t always been easy to get speakers for. We're something of a family... a miniature community supporting one another with good opportunity to fellowship around our tables. Although we only make small profit we can still keep the cost of the meal at £5 thanks to grants to cover the cost of hiring the Chapel Hall and covering travel costs to bring some of our guests to lunches. Our **Transport scheme** enables a taxi to be provided for folk who may have mobility issues and need transport especially for visits for medical attention and other very necessary trips. This enjoyed a challenging year. The taxi service is provided by Winterton Taxis. Paul continued to provide a very good service, giving the necessary time and going beyond the call of duty to help those with mobility issues. We’re very glad to have Roger with us too as a volunteer driver. We send our grateful thanks to all involved. Our **Winter Support Scheme** continues. Last Winter we got away with it again, but who knows what will be coming, and we are ready as always. Winterton is divided into 4 zones and we have over 120 households on our lists and we would like to thank Kathy, Chris, Stuart and Carol for their willingness to be in touch with all concerned if severe weather arrives. Our energies and funds were directed towards Warm Place in the absence of snow. Thank you to all the Co-op staff for their assistance in preparing our orders and to all Winterton Co-op & Tesco Express customers for their continued donations in store to the food bank collections. We work in partnership with Winterton & District Lions to distribute locally. We are extremely grateful to all the people who are still donating despite difficult times. A special thank you to The Infants and Junior Schools for letting us have their Harvest Festival donations for distribution. The **Community Fridge** initiative was our most recent project, in its infancy at the end of our financial year, but developing fast thanks to grants which are mentioned in the Financial Statement. By the end of our financial year we had our transport costs for moving surplus food entirely covered through to March 2026. ## **Other matters:** A word on people: we sadly lost Rose Dray and our centenarian Edna Wheater. Sheila Armstrong and Barbara Parker have also gone to care homes. We are always looking for volunteers. We want to share the work out so that we have someone able to help at any time, so the more, the merrier!. We continue to keep a supply of disability aids available to be loaned out thanks to various folk who have given them. An important footnote! Another successful year of Hugo's Foot Care services.. holding regular clinics here between 10am and 4pm on L&L Wednesdays. As TPF we are simply facilitating footcare here, it's all down to Hugo. But what a help it is having him. Anyone can make an appointment and discuss their needs by contacting Hugo direct. ## **Conclusion:** Another successful year.
