The Burslem Jubilee Project, which is also known as Burslem Jubilee, is a Charitable Incorporated Association. Our trustees, who are appointed by existing trustees, are assisted in running the Charity by committed regular volunteers.
The Burslem Jubilee Project exists to relieve poverty, promote good mental health, and advance education among asylum seekers and refugees in Stoke-on-Trent by providing social, educational, and leisure activities to facilitate their integration within and for the benefit of the wider community.
The trustees, in making their decisions, have had due regard to the Commission’s public benefit guidance when Burslem Jubilee Project Charity Report - 2022* exercising powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant.
Empowering Communities, Building Resilience
Throughout 2024, Burslem Jubilee has continued its mission to support Asylum Seekers and Refugees within our community. Our work this year has primarily focused on providing essential resources, educational support, and creating a welcoming environment for refugees, particularly those from Ukraine. This report summarises the key achievements of our programmes and outlines our hopes and goals for the future.
Throughout 2024, Burslem Jubilee has continued its mission to support asylum seekers and refugees within our community. This year we have been privileged to walk alongside many individuals and families, particularly those from Ukraine, offering essential resources, English language support, and a warm and welcoming space to build friendships and confidence.
Our work would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, teachers, and partner organisations. This report highlights the achievements of the year, the impact on the lives of those we serve, and our hopes for the future.
2024 in Numbers

42 vulnerable families received food and clothing vouchers during the winter months.

995 attendances recorded across all activities from January to December 2024.

ESOL classes supported up to 18 learners per session (limited by space), with sessions running:

Face-to-face: Thursday and Friday

Online: Saturday

3 teachers supported learners: Sarah (face-to-face), Marguerite (face-to-face), and Liliya (online).

Furniture, clothing, toiletries, and Christmas gifts distributed to families in need.

Refurbished laptops and mobile phones provided, enabling digital connection.
Activities and Achievements
English Language Support (ESOL)
Our English classes remain at the heart of Burslem Jubilee. We have provided different levels of classes, enabling both beginners and those with higher proficiency to improve their skills. Learners have gained confidence to access NHS services, complete forms, understand UK laws and traditions, and pursue further education.

Two learners (GT and FA) successfully enrolled on teaching assistant courses , with aspirations to qualify in the next academic year.

NZ, one of our attendees, has found the project a place of support and learning while caring for her family with additional needs.

Community Support

Warm Space: Provided refreshments, table games, and social connection throughout the year.

Food & Clothing: Essential vouchers distributed to families during the colder months.

Furniture: Supplied with help from local churches in Burslem and Silverdale.

Digital Inclusion: Distributed refurbished laptops and mobiles to help families connect and access services.
Partnerships and Workshops

Worked with city agencies such as CAB, the local council, and the Sexual Health Team to bring vital services directly to attendees.

Delivered creative opportunities through art workshops with BCB and New Vic Theatre.

Collaborated with community artist Roz on a successful pottery shield project, giving clients a chance to celebrate culture and creativity.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Our vision for 2025 includes:

Expanding provision of bus tickets to help learners access classes.

Securing funding to increase hours of ESOL and introduce Maths support .

Organising an inclusive project to celebrate the centenary of Stoke-on-Trent , bringing together diverse voices from across the city.

Continuing our much-loved Friday art and craft mornings , offering relaxation, creativity, and friendship.
