TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT

For the period 01/04/2022 to 31/03/2023

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document:

The promotion of social inclusion for the public benefit amongst people who are socially excluded by providing them with the means to participate in healthy recreation and access support services to relieve their needs and assist them to integrate into society.

(For the purposes of this clause "socially excluded" means people who are excluded from society, or parts of society as a result of homelessness.)

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects:

Using dance as a catalyst for change we provide homeless people with the opportunity to progress beyond homelessness and fulfil their potential.

Working in partnership with other homeless charities and their service users, Dance Pad runs shortterm (6-8 week) choreography projects each culminating in an informal performance to an invited audience. Open to anyone experiencing homelessness, the projects aim to inspire and empower participants, reduce isolation by building a community of dancers, and instil a sense of achievement and self-worth.

Throughout the projects, participants are introduced to basic contemporary dance and choreography techniques. Facilitated by an enthusiastic and supportive dance professional, the projects are participant led; working as a team they choose the subject matter, choose the music and create the moves.

Using a variety of choreographic tools, participants are encouraged to create short phrases individually and in groups, helping them to transform their thoughts, ideas and emotions into movement. Learning to use their bodies artistically and creatively, dance provides a vehicle for expression that is accessible to everyone.

A unique feature of Dance Pad is the professional development of the participants. As well as creating the pieces and performing them, the participants are also involved in costume and stage design, marketing and production. This provides them with the opportunity to learn new, tangible skills that are transferable into other working environments, thus aiding their employment opportunities.

In accordance with Section 17(5) of the Charities Act and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, the trustees have, in planning the activities for the year, reviewed and given due consideration to the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission.
