ANNUAL REPORT FROM AUGUST 2020 – MAY 2021

At the end of the last Annual Report in August 2020, it was noted that the trustees were urgently looking for warehouse facilities. A local landlord offered us a run-down shop very close to our office and distribution centre. This was offered rent free but a lot of work was needed to make it acceptable to the Northumberland County Council Environmental Health Department. Advice about the way forward was offered by that department.

Work on the warehouse involved cleaning, re-wiring, plastering, plumbing, painting, renewing and re cladding the frontage. All this work has now been completed and the warehouse became operational in Jan 2021.

The period leading up to Christmas was extremely busy and along with other local organisations we were able to provide an additional 577 regular parcels, 690 Family Christmas parcels and 252 additional single Christmas parcels.

Financially the local businesses and general population were very generous and as a consequence we are in a good position at present, as can be seen in the Annual Accounts. We anticipate however, that the money we have will very quickly reduce, and therefore we anticipate maintaining a substantial amount in reserves to help us over the next one or two years

Since early January the financial support and level of donations have significantly reduced, however, we continue to provide for those referred at a pre Covid level. Many of these referrals relate to families with young children who are struggling to find employment.

We have a regular reliable group of volunteers, and although numbers of volunteers are less than before the pandemic, we are able to open on six mornings each week. We have been able to meet Covid secure requirements in both the new warehouse and the office/ distribution centre. We have done this by limiting the number of people in the buildings, and by wearing face masks and visors and ensuring hand gel is available throughoutt he buildings

We hope to re-introduce more training, when and if we can resume face to face contact, and we will continue to work with other organisations to meet the needs of those referred from Blyth and Seaton Valley.
