Objectiv&s and activities
a. Policies and objectives
The ehar(cy's purpose is lo advance the education tsf young petsons in the Un(ted Kingdom and elsewhere in the
Polish language, history, culture and traditions.
The charity a150 uses the names Polish Educational Society and Polska Macierz Szkolna Zagranica {PESI.
In setting objectives and planning for 8Ctivilies, the Trustees have given due consideration lo general guidance
published by the Charity Commission relating to public benefrt, including the 9uidance 'Public benefit.. running a
charity IPB21'.
b. A¢tlvlti¢s undertaken to achi&ve objectlvgs
Income is largely derived from donations and lègacies from various sponsors such as individuals and
orgar)isations to help PES facililales their objectives to help young persons and teachers improve their
education capabilrties. The chaThly also receive income from setb'ng up oxaminalions and publishing educational
materials.
C. Main activities undertaken to further the Charlty's purpos￿ for the public benefit
The Tru&lee5 have refErred lo the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public
benefit when reviewing the aims and objectives ef the charity and in planning its future activities. The main
activities undertaken are set out below..
The principal aclivits.es of the society throughout the year continued lo be that of the publishing and sale of
educolignal aids, the organisalion of confer¢n¢es, the administration of courses and examinations, the
dissemination of educational material to Schools and ¢entres ol education.
Th8 charity is active in assisting Polish Supplementsry Schools throughout England, in organising conferences
for teachers. and supplying teaching and related materials as w&ll as organising public examinations for
students in the Polish language.

After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonab18 expectation that the CharEty has adequate
r&sources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason. th.èy continue to adopt
the going concem basis in preparing the financial statements

b. Reserves policy
The charf(y enjoys a comfortable level of reserves, in excess of more than 2 years, commitment of expenditure
on charitable aclivilies. The level of 'freÈ' reserves rernains under review.
Free reserves comprise of lolal unreslriGted funds, excluding fixed assets, that are freety available lo use
against any type of the charity's activities. As at 31 Oe¢ember 2024, the free unrestricted funds stood al
£557,22212023.' £529,424).
Financial overview
The net surplus for the year was £23,377 {2024 £52,034) and the net assets currentty stand al £551,80312024 -
£535,584).
Strurture, governance and management
a. Constttution
The tharily was registered with the charity cc)mmission on 1159980 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation
on 16 January 2015 and look over the activities of another charity. Polish Eduotignal Society - registered
number 298254- on 24 March 2016.
The assets and liabilities Df PMS Bookshop Limited were transfèrred lo the charity on 1 April 2019 and the
charity carried on this acltvity after this date.
b. Methods of appointment or election of Trustees
The managemeftl of the Charty is the responsibility of the Trustees who are eleGled an¢J C¢X>Pted under the
temis of the Trust deed.

The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are SLrfficient to show and explain
the Charity's transactions and disclose wrth reasonable accuracy al any lime the financi81 position of the Charity
and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2Q11, the Charity
IAccounls and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the Trust deed. They are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking feasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other irregularities.

I report to the ¢hartiy Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Charty for the year ended 31

Responsibilitiès and Basis of Report
As the Trustees of the Charity you are responsible lor the preparation of the accounts in accordance with th
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 Ilhe 2011 Act'i.
I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2Q11 Act and
in carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under
se¢tion 14515llbl of the 2011 Act.
Independent Examin6rfs Statement
Since the Charity's grtsss income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a body listed in
section 145 of the 2011 Act. I confimi that l am qualified lo undertake the examination because l am a member
of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, which is one of the listed bodies.
Your attention is drawn to the fact that the Charity has PTepared the accounts in accordance wf(h Accounting
and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their
accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
(FRS 1 Q21 in preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charitie5: Statement of R$commended Pradi
issued on 1 April 2005 which is referred lo in the extant regulations but has been withdrawn.

General Informatlon
The Polish Educational Society was registered with the Charity Commission as a Chartsble Incorporated
Org8nisstion on 16 January 2015. The address of the principal office is shown on page 1. The ￿gIStered
charty number 18 1159980.
Accounting policias
2.1 Basis of preparation of finanrial statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP {FRS 1 Tr21
Aeeounting and Reporting by Charities.. Ststement of Reeommended Practice applicable to charitiès
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective 1 January 2019), the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011.
The financial statements have been prepared to give a Irue and faiv view and have departad from
the Charities (Accounts and Reportsl Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a 'lrue
and fairf view. This departure has involved following the Charitie5 SORP IFRS 1021 published in
October 2019 rather than the Accountirlg and Reporting by Charilies_' Statement ol Recommendeol
Practice effective from 1 April 2005 which ha5 since been withdrawn.
The Polish Educational Society meets the dtrfin((ion of a public beneft entity under FRS 102. Assèts
and liabilities are initially recognised al historical cost or Iran5aclion value unless otherwise staled in
the relevant accounting policy.
2.2 Going Concern
After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charty has
adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason,
they continue to adopt the going Goncetn basis in preparing the financial statements
2.3 Income
All income is recognised once the Charity has trntillemenl to thè income, it is probable that the
income will be reseived and the amount of income ￿¢￿1vable can be m¢asured reliably.
Grants are included in the Stslemenl of financial aclivfcies on a re¢eNable basis. The balance of
ineome ￿te1V￿d for spècific purposes but not expended during the period is shown in the relevant
funds on the Balance shèet. Where income is received in advance of entitlement of reGeipl, its
recognition is deferred and included in credrtor5 as deferred income. whe￿ enlillemenl occurs
before income is received, the income is ac¢wed.
Income lax recoverable in relallon to investment income is recognised at tho lime the investment
income is receivable.

2.4 ExpendÉturo

benefrt to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in
settlement snd the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expendf(ure is classified by
a¢tivity. Th¢ costs of each aclpity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including
support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable lo a single activty are
allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs which contribute lo MO￿ than one activity and support
costs which are not attributable lo a single a¢livily are appcirtigned between those activities on a
basis consistent with the use of resou￿@8. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of time
spent, and depreciation charges allocated on the portion of the asset's use.
Expenditure on charitable activf(ies is incurred on directly undertaking the activities which further the
Charity's objectives, as well as any assock8ted support costs.
2.5 Intgrest reGeivable
Interest on fvnds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured
reliably by the Charity,. this is normally upon noliftcalion of the interest paid or payable by the
institution with whom the funds are deposited.
2.6 Tangible frxed assets and depreciation
Tangible fixed assets costing £500 or morè are caprtalised and recognised when future economic
benefits a￿ probable and the cost oi value of the asset can be mea$ured reliably.
Tangible fixed assets are initially recognised al cost. After recognition, under the cost model.
tangible fixed assets are measured al cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated
impairment losses. Al costs incurred to bring a tangible fixed asset into its intended working
condition should be included in the measurement of cost.
Depreciation is charged so as lo allocate the cost of tangible fixed assets less their residual value
over their estimated useful lives. on a reducing balanee basis.

2.7 Investments
Fixed asset investments are a fomi of financial inslnjment and are Initial￿ recognised at their

gains and losses. whether realised or unrealised, are combined and presented as 'Gainsl{Lossesl
on investments, in the Statement gf financial aGlivilies.
2.8 StoGks
Stocks are valued al the lower of cost and nel realisable value after making due allowance for
obsolete and slow-moving sloeks. Cost Includes all direct costs and an appropriate proportion of
fixed and variable overheads.

2.10 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash al bank and in hand includes cash and short-lerm highly liquid investments with a short
malurily of three months or less the date of acquisition or op8ning of the dep(YJil or similar
account.
2.11 Liabilities and provisions
Liabilities arè rècognised when there is an obligation al the Balance sheet date as a resu5t of a past
event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount
of the settlernenl ean be estimated re5iabty.
Liabilitie5 are recognised at th¢ amount th* the Charity anticipates il will pay to setue tho debt or the
amount it has received as advanced payments for the goods or services il must provide.
2.12 Financlal Instrumènts
Th8 Charity only has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualfy as basic financial
instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and
subsequently measured at their settlement value with the exception of bank loans which are
subsequently measu￿￿ al amortised cost using the effective interest method.
2.13 Pensions
The Charty operat&s a defined contribution pension scheme and the pension eharge represents the
amounts payable by the Charity to the fund in respect of the year.
2.14 Fund accounting
General lunds are unrestricted funds which a￿ available for use at the discretion of the Trusle&s in
furtherance of the general objectives of th& Charity and which have not been designated for other
purpo$gS.

20. Pension commitments
The charity operatès a defined contribution pension scheme. The assets of the ￿h￿rne are held
separately from those of the group in an independently administered fund. The pension cost charge
represents contributions payable by the group to the fund and amounted to £2,22312023 - £1,869). No
amounts were in¢lude¢J in ¢rodff(ors as payable to the fvnd at the balance sheet dale.

The Charity has not entered into any related party transaction during the year, nor are there any
