STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

STRUCTURE AND ORGANISATION

The Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) was set up on 09 January 2016 with registration number 1159881.

Brooklands Church is overseen by a Church Board, which at present comprises paid employees and elected trustees. There are currently three paid employees and eight trustees. The number of trustees is subject to change at each Annual General Meeting.

The Lead Pastor chairs the Church Board.

APPOINTMENTS

The position of Lead Pastor of Brooklands Church was reviewed in 2023, which was two years after the appointment was made. The next review is due to take place in 2027

The Associate Pastors are ex-officio non-voting members of the Church Board.

The Lead Pastor is a full -time employee and the Associate Pastors are both part time employees.

We have a student on work experience placement from the Nazarene Theological Collete, in Manchester.

GOVERNANCE AND WIDER NETWORK

The Church Board meets monthly to consider the work and management of Brooklands Church, and assess and plan the financial and other aspects of the work and direction of the Charity.

Brooklands Church is one of the Churches within the Church of the Nazarene British Isles South District (a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, Company No 7028764; Charity No 1133336), which in turn is a member of the Eurasia Region of the global Church of the Nazarene which has its headquarters at Church of the Nazarene, Global Ministry Center, 17001 Prairie Star Parkway, Lenexa, Kansas, USA, 66220.

RISK MANAGEMENT

The risk management strategy of Brooklands Church is in a continual process of formulation – in line with the Constitution – and in response to the changing circumstances that could impact upon the work of Brooklands Church.

The Church Board, in considering this important task, takes direction from ongoing discussions with members both internally and through meetings with Brooklands Church of the Nazarene British Isles South District and other advisers, adopting appropriate policies as required, or as they become necessary to the ongoing work of Brooklands Church.

The Church Board meets on a regular basis to plan and look to the future of the charity. Current proposals include:

The work planned, activities undertaken and achievements attained would not have been possible without the active involvement and hard work of all of the members and friends of Brooklands Church, without whom the substantial work of the charity could not be realised. The Church Board is grateful for the work and support of all the members and friends of Brooklands Church.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

RESERVES

The Charity does not have a policy on Reserves as the expenditure and work of the charity is reliant upon the ongoing support, tithes and offerings of the members and friends received at the weekly meetings. The Church Board holds regular reviews of the anticipated income and expenditure for the few months to ensure the ongoing work of the charity.

FINANCIAL REVIEW OF THE YEAR

The Charity has continued throughout the year to meet and tailor the expenditure it incurs to the income received through rent from use of the building (or Manse) and through the tithes, offerings and donations received. There is much more that the Board of Trustees would like to do, and we continue to explore these and the use of possible grants that may be available to enable these plans to become a reality.

The Receipts and Payment Account shows that during the financial year from 01 October 2024 to 30 September 2025, income exceeded expenditure by £12,463.59. £8,000 of our income was from two grants, for which we are grateful.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Pastor, Church Board, Members and Congregation

Please find attached the Independent Examiner’s Report and Annual Receipts and Payments Accounts for Manchester Brooklands Church of the Nazarene, Manchester Brooklands Savings Account and Kids Church Account covering the period 01 October 2024 to 30 September 2025 for perusal and acceptance.

INCOME

Tithes and Offerings are up by £1,745, with Covenants (Gift Aid contributions) up by £2,783 compared to last year. This is an overall increase of just under 10%, which in turn increases the amount we receive back as Gift Aid from the Government. I know we have spoken about it before, but if you are paying Income Tax, either through your salary or through your pension, and would like to know more about how you can join the scheme please speak with me or Mark Bolton. Signing up is easy - you just need to complete a Gift Aid Declaration form, and I will do the rest.

As we had people sign up at our last appeal, the benefit of claiming Gift Aid can be seen. This is up by almost £1,650 this year.

The Church is almost at maximum capacity with regards to Use of Premises. Thank you to Mark Bolton and Simona Stanfield for the work they do on managing the bookings.

At the AGM in February last year, the Board was asked to look at upgrading the car park. As you now know we listened and felt that as we were fixing up the parking we should look into replacing the rickety fences at the same time. But it was a costly exercise, so we approached the British Isles South District for a loan. They responded positively and also offered us a Grant of £5,000. We have agreed a 5-year repayment plan, or sooner should this be possible.

Gifts & Donations include 2 large donations that came with no restrictions, but a very big thank you to everyone who gives. We also received a legacy of £1,000.

Mark managed to receive a grant from Manchester Airport Community Trust, which was used to purchase the new dishwasher, so grateful thanks to the Trust for this.

Thanks to your generous support, Tim Geddes was part of a delegation of young people who went on a "Work and Witness" trip to Madrid. It was a great success, and fun was had by all.

EXPENDITURE

The increase in the Lead Pastors salary is due to Pastor Mick moving to 3 days a week earlier in the year, and then full time as from 01 September 2025.

The reduction in Assistant Pastors salaries is due to the fact that there was a hiatus when Pastor Lauren left and Pastor Sarah started. Sarah also does not do as many hours as Lauren.

The increase in Church Cleaning has arisen due to the extra use of the building so we increased the number of hours to 6 for the Cleaners. This figure also includes addition items such as the toilet roll dispensers, bins, and window cleaning.

Last year it was agreed to replace the lighting system around the Church, changing all bulbs to ecofriendly LED ones, and upgrading some of the electrical wiring in the sanctuary. This will not need to be done for a while now.

A new licence, the Information Commissioner's Office licence now has to be paid. This is due to the fact that we hold addresses and telephone numbers for members and regular visitors and is now a requirement from the Government.

The Gifts and Donations were made possible by requests to you following presentations from Fellingham Music and Raising Futures.

BISD DISTRICT BUDGETS

The BISD District Budgets are calculated at 20% of our Tithes, Offerings and Covenants, and all Budgets have been paid in full.
