Brooklands Church is overseen by a Church Board, which at present comprises paid employees and elected Trustees. There are currer)tly three paid employees and eight Trustees. The number of Trustees is subject to change at each annual general meeting. The Lead Pastor Chairs the Church Board. AppoiNTMENTS The position of Lead Pastor of Brooklands Church will be reviewed in 2027, which is two years after the appointment was made, and subsequently every four years after that. The Associate Pastor5 are ex-officio non-voting member of the Church Board, but are not Trustees. The Lead Pastor and both Associate Pastors are part time employees. GOVERNANCE ANO WIDER NETWORK The Church Board aims to meet monthly to consider the work and management of Brooklands Church and assess and plan the financial and other aspects of the work and direction of the Charity. RISK MANAGEMENT The risk management strategy of Brooklands Church is in a continual process of formulation with the Constitution- and in response to the changing circumstances that could impact upon the work of Brooklands Church. The advancement of the Christian faith as part of the Global Church of the Nazarene and the Church of the Nazarene British Isles South Districti principally, but not exclusively in northern England. b. To serve and enhance the local community. PUBLIC BENEFIT The Trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit reporting in deciding what attivities the Charity should undertake. This report illustrates some of the attivities undertaken to 5UPPOrt the public benefit requirement. REVIEW OF THE YEAR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Our activities for the year included.. Continuation of weekly Christian worship meetings and promotion of the Christian faith in accordance with the principles of the Church of the Nazarene, led by our Lead Pastor, Revd Michael Kane, and assisted by our Associate Pastors and other leaders. b. Provision of online worship sessions through the broadcasting of our Sunday services, for the benefit of housebound and distant friends of the Church. Development of roles of Associate Pastors. d. Work with children and young people to promote the Christian faith and provide local social benefit. e. Continuation of midweek meetings for adults. Continuing to develop links with the local community, enhance the involvement of Brooklands Church with relevant local agencies to support the local community, where necessary taking account of recent changes in government regulations. g. Continue to partner with and make the Church building available to relevant local agencies seeking to benefit the local community. Such agencies include but are not restricted to Manchester City Council, the NHS, Foodcycle, and Brooklands Tenants and Residents Association. h. Engagement with children through Sunday meetings to promote Christian values and ethical education. Weekly parent and child group. Regular prayer breakfasts. k. A weekly Community Café, jointly hosted by Manchester City Council councilors for the Brooklands ward. Weekly prayer meeting (including online) to consider the needs of the congregation and community. m. Weekly Bible study groups at the Church premises and at private homes. Provision of a weekly Food Bank, in association with other groups. q. Provision of education with basic IT instruction. Hosting of Guides and Brownies groups. Hosting of a choir. Siting of a defibrillator for community use. Management of the Church Manse, which is tenanted by a private individual and his family. ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE PERIOD KEY ACHIEVEMENTS Continued growth of the membership and Church attendance. b. Increased community engagement. Strengthened relationship with partners. d. The development of equipment and training to provide a virtual online Church to both the housebound and wider community near and far. Improvements to the Church premises. FUTURE PLANS The Church Board meets on a regular basis to plan and look to the future of the Charity. Current proposals include- Continued practical improvements to our Church premises and the Manse. b. Strengthening of the faith of our membership through in-person and online worship. pastoral visitation and other means of communication including the provision of online editions of the weekly newsletters being sent by request to members and friends of Brooklands Church. Seek opportunities for Christian expression. d. To develop ways of 'loving our neighbour, by supporting and reaching out to our local community. One such activity is to promote digital inclusion by providing free computer classes. e. Development and improvement of premises and facilities. VOLUNTEERS The work planned, activitie5 undertaken and achievements attained would not have been possible without the active involvement and hard work of all of the members and friends of Brooklands Church, without whom the substantial work of the Charity could not be realised. Registered Charity 1159881 FINANCIAL REVIEW RESERVES The Charity does not have a policy on Reserves as the expenditure and work of the Charity is reliant upon the ongoing Support, tithes and offerings of the members and friends received at the weekly meetings. The Church Board reviews on a monthly basis the anticipated income and expenditure forthe next two to three months in order to ensure the ongoing work of the Charity. FINANCIAL REVIEW OF THE YEAR The Charity has continued throughout the year to meet and tailor the expenditure it incurs to the income received through rent from use of the building lor M3nsel and through the tithes, offerings and donations received. There is much more that the Board of Trustees would like to do, and we continue to explore these and the use of possible grants that may be available to enable these plans to become a reality. The Receipts and Payment Account shows that there was a net surplus in cash funds during the year of £8,201. DECLARATION The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees, report above. Registered Charity 1159881 TREASURER'S REPORT Pastors, Church Board, Members and Guests The Independent Examiner's Report 8nd Annual Income 8nd Expenditure Accounts for the period 01 October 2022 to 30 September 2023 were circulated in the AGM booklet, however there are a few copies available if you need one. MANCHESTER BROOKLANDS CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE Income from Tithes and Offerings, and Covenants this year (Note Al is 109/01£3,7941 more than last year, with Gift Aid Tax Rebate up by 9961£6831. The Church is now being used regularly (Note Bl by various Community groups, which is being well man8ged by Mark Bolton and Simona Stanfield, and has doubled in revenue. I would just like to record my thanks to them for their time and effort in keeping everything in order. As you are all aware, we replaced all the chairs in the Sanctuary this year, and I would like to thank you for your generous support, giving an exceptional amount of £4,350 towards this (Note Cl. We also received three Legacies last year (Note Dl, and with the consent of the families, these were also put towards the cost, so in the end the Church only paid £236.80. Pastor Lucy 8rranged for a grant from Manchester City Council of £1,130.99, that was to be used for the Community Digital Inclusion progr2mme. With this she purchased 6 iPads, leaving a balance of £519.05, which has been earmarked for another Community project. It should be noted that the Council have sent a further grant for the same amount this year. Toddle In sent in a donation of £143.86 (Note El, howeverthey needed new chairsforthe children, so this covered the purchase. Overall Income was up by 32%1£21,378.76112022 it was 42%1£24,846.9411. Expenditure is also showing an increase of just under 400h1£20.903.891 [2022 it was 51.8 % 1£27,346.3211. which is made up f rom Salary increases and Pastor Lauren joining the team amounting to £10,622.12 12022 it was £2,809.80), Church Maintenance of £4,949.50 and other smaller increases. Church Maintenance includes the installation of the new locking system 1£1,676.201, security cameras1£642.001 and the fixing of the Defibrillator to the wall outside the Creche. The £7,454.48 received from The Naz Salary Secondment is, as l am sure you all know, P8Stor Lucy's secondment to Salford 2S their Food Pantry Coordinator, 8lthough knowing Lucy, I think she probably does a lot more than that whilst there. I can confirm all British Isles South District Budgets were paid in full and on time. MANCHESTER BROOKLANDS NYI/KIDs CHURCH Kids Church is now being overseen by Pastor Lauren, and l am sure you agree, the Christmas presentation was a gre8t success. The £114.54 expenditure relates to Christmas gifts and an outing for the children. MANCHESTER BROOKLANDS SAVINGS AccouNT The Savings Account is down a little this year due to funds being transferred for various items through the year. FOOD PANTRY RECONCILIATION Since the inception of the Food Pantry, we have had a few donations towards this, including one from Manchester City Council in March 2022.
