Better Barrow Community Project

Annual Report 2025-2026

Community Involvement

Wheelbarrow and Open Garden Event. The 14[th] Wheelbarrow Weekend was held as usual over the first two days of June. The Steam Fair organizers on Wold Road made a considerable addition to attractions.

The Tombola was also held at a the above event.

The Plant Sale was not held this year.

An event about the Statue Talk was held by Andrew King and Marcus Cornish. A film shows the talk and can be viewed on the website.

Income from these events can be seen in the annual accounts. Thanks to Jessie Taylor for keeping the books.

Other Community Links

The John Harrison Prize was awarded to two pupils at John Harrison School who visited the Greenwich Observatory to see the Harrison clocks.

Heritage

The reprinting of Humphrey Quill’s biography of Harrison has continued to proceeding slowly.

The assistance of The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and the Antiquarian Horological Society have been helpful. Jonathan Betts has been helping to moving the project along, especially with Andrew King.

Village websites

The committee is moving to combining the Better Barrow and Barrow-upon-Humber websites in order to reduce expenses.
