Better Barrow Community Project
Annual Report 2022-23
Community Involvement
Wheelbarrow and Open Garden Event. The 12[th] Wheelbarrow Weekend was held as usual over the first two days of June. A Steam Fair and a Bouncy Castle added to the attractions this year.
Better Barrow was grateful once again for all the donations which made our tombola stall at the Rotary Christmas Fair successful.
Income from these events can be seen in the annual accounts. Thanks to Jessie Taylor for keepng the books.
Other Community Links
The John Harrison Prize was awarded to two pupils at John Harrison School who visited the Greenwich Observatory to see the Harrison clocks.
Heritage
A new information board has been added to the four existing ones in Barrow and Barrow Haven. This one describes the volunteer fire brigade which was active in the village during the Second World War.
Discussions have begun regarding the reprinting of Humphrey Quill’s biography of Harrison. The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers (copyright holders) have granted permission to undertake it under the editorship of Jonathan Betts, ex-Observatory Curator.
Village websites
Both the Better Barrow and Barrow-upon-Humber websites continue to be updated. More information about buildings of interest have been added.
Policies
Better Barrow policies regarding Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding (Children and Vulnerable Adults) were reviewed and updated as necessary.
