The advancement of educaton for the public beneft in West Africa by such means as the trustees think ft including: a. providing and assistng in the provision of facilites for educaton at schools including at the Evans Primary School in Tengbeh Town, Freetown; b. promotng, supportng or funding individuals or organisatons in order that West African people in need can access educatonal or training programmes beyond primary school including: i.awarding fnancial support to such persons (e.g. scholarships, maintenance allowances or grants or resources/items tenable for secondary, tertary, further, higher, specialist or vocatonal educaton or training); ii.providing for their educaton or preparaton for entry to any occupaton, trade or profession on leaving any educatonal establishment. iii.assistng any charity in West Africa whose aims include advancing educaton of persons by developing their mental, physical and moral capabilites through educatonal or leisure tme actvites; 2. The purpose of SWATS is: 1. To advance the education of the pupils at the Evans Primary School, Freetown, Sierra Leone, by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities for education at the school. 2. For the public benefit to promote or support the education (including social and physical training) of people in West Africa in such ways as the charity trustees think fit, including by: a. awarding to such persons scholarships, maintenance allowances or grants tenable at any school, university, college or institution of higher or further education; b. providing their education (including the study of music or other arts), to undertake travel in furtherance of that education or to prepare for entry to any occupation, trade or profession on leaving any educational establishment. 3. The prevention or relief of poverty in West Africa by providing: grants, items, and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. 4. To assist in such ways as the charity trustees think fit any charity in West Africa whose aims include advancing education of persons by developing their mental, physical and moral capabilities through educational or leisure time activities. Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Throughout the year SWATS continued to provide grants that fully funded all running costs of the Evans Primary School. The charity paid for exam fees for a number of students this year and also undertook regular maintenance work, including to the water tank and toilets. We replaced the roof of the school and funded a sports day for the children. This year we provided a small bonus payment to teachers to help them cope with the cost of living crisis engulfing the country and gave each employee a pay rise.
Each child continued to receive a free lunch each day.
