TAR

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

The purpose of SWATS is:
1. To advance the education of the pupils at the Evans Primary School,
Freetown, Sierra Leone, by providing and assisting in the provision of
facilities for education at the school.
2. For the public benefit to promote or support the education (including social
and physical training) of people in West Africa in such ways as the charity
trustees think fit, including by:
a. awarding to such persons scholarships, maintenance allowances or
grants tenable at any school, university, college or institution of
higher or further education;
b. providing their education (including the study of music or other
arts), to undertake travel in furtherance of that education or to
prepare for entry to any occupation, trade or profession on leaving
3. any educational establishment.
The prevention or relief of poverty in West Africa by providing: grants,
items, and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other
organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.
4. To assist in such ways as the charity trustees think fit any charity in West
Africa whose aims include advancing education of persons by developing
their mental, physical and moral capabilities through educational or leisure
time activities.
For the public benefit, SWATS aims to develop educated, healthy young people
who are better able to find and maintain employment and thus contribute to
their community. In Sierra Leone one person in employment often supports
multiple members of their extended family. Thus by increasing the educational
attainment and employment potential of individuals within the community, the
benefits will be spread widely across the community.
Beneficiaries of SWATS will benefit from:
Free or subsidised education
A safe environment in which to learn
Employment opportunities for the teaching staff that guarantees them fair
and regular salaries
Employment opportunities through building and infrastructure projects
where as far as possible all projects will be staffed by local people
Access togoods and services to reducepoverty
