## **Additional governance issues**

Membership of The Gosport Shed (TGS) is open to individuals who have retired from full time work, are disabled or in financial hardship, or organisations who are approved by the Trustees. The Trustees oversee the day to day running of TGS.

TGS is located in the grounds of St Vincent College from who it rents its accommodation. TGS is also part of the Regional and National Men’s Shed Networks. All Trustees and Shed members give their time voluntarily and receive no payments or other benefits.

TGS is aware of the financial risks in relying on membership fees and donations to cover its running costs and has adopted a reserves policy to cover its major risks

## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing documents**

To provide or assist in the provision of facilities, in the interest of social welfare, for recreation or other leisure time activities for TGS members. This is with the objective of improving their mental and physical health.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects**

Activities during this financial year have included:

## Projects

TGS members, utilising their wide range of skills, have carried out a number of projects assisting local schools, nurseries and sheltered accommodation, as well as individuals within the Gosport community. They have also carried out projects for local Naval establishments and The Mary Rose Museum. Projects have ranged from repairing and replacing play equipment to refurbishing Naval ceremonial cannons.

## Musical Activities

TGS has increased its musical activities and now has a Ukulele band a choir together with a Guitar band and a Skiffle group which give regular concerts and shows out in the local community. TGS utilising the skills of Shed members a musical revue was performed raising funds for both the Shed and The Poppy appeal.

## DIY

TGS has developed workshop and DIY facilities enabling members to carry out their own projects in a social environment.

TGS activities allow the sharing of skills and experiences developed by members over long careers.

All activities carried out by TGS have benefited its members by overcoming loneliness and depression through social interaction.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities**

All project work is carried out by TGS members volunteering and working in teams. This together with volunteers carrying out fundraising activities has contributed both to TGS funds and the social engagement benefiting its members.

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

## Accommodation

TGS Is continuing discussions with our landlord, St Vincent College, to confirm a lease for its old drill hall. TGS is looking to achieve a 5-year rolling lease which would give us some certainty when looking to the future. The College has agreed in principle to offer the lease and is awaiting approval from its board.

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

TGS relies on its membership fees, donations and fundraising for its income so its reserves policy is set to ensure that sufficient funds are held to enable it to cover operating costs for a minimum period of 6 months. Additionally, TGS is building up a building fund with the aspiration of obtaining its own premises.

## **Details of any funds materially in deficit**
