Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

The main objective is to advance and maintain Christian faith, tradition and doctrines of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church by providing religious rites and sacraments for all its members. Establishing congregations for conducting Holy Eucharist, Sacraments and Services according to the faith of the Church. To make availability of Priests and Holy Sacrament materials to all the parishes all over UK. To organise training camps for Sunday School teachers, student groups, youth association and women’s association. To launch charitable institutions for the welfare of members of the Church and for the poor and needy.

3

The activities of MSOC UK during the reporting year were partially affected by various implications and demands of the aftermath recovery procedures of the Covid. During the first half of the reporting year covid rules and regulations have compelled most of the parishes to minimise their regular face-to-face gatherings such as the Holy Qurbana, Sunday school, Prayer Meetings etc. as a consequence there was no other option than continue the services by online until recently.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

Most of the spiritual organisations under the MSOC UK have restarted their activities since the covid restrictions were relaxed. The Christmas Celebration 2021 was conducted jointly on 19 December 2021 by online.

MJSSA UK has managed to sustain all its activities such as classes, teachers training and other related programmes successfully. The Kalolsavum competition was held in all 5 zones prior to the UK Regional Kalolsavum in April. Vanitha Samajam Units were active and continued their regular functions like monthly online prayer meetings, charity help and other related activities during this reporting year. The youth association has organised and actively participated in the Christmas Programme 2021. Student Movement has conducted the Christmas Carol competition 2021 and 18 parishes took part in it.

There was a Lenten Convention organised for the first time by the MSOC Council during the last Great Lent. The Convention was held online every Friday at 7.30pm and distinguished bishops and priests from our Church as well as from other sister churches gave the sermons.

There are 5 new MSOC Congregations started in UK during the reporting year.
