The relief of persons in need in the Woolton area of Liverpool and its surrounding vicinity who may be socially isolated or lonely, In particular, but not exclusively by the provision of support, advice and other services to assist them in their independent living, relieve their social isolation, promotc their good health and improve their quality of life. The promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by promoting activiiies to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds. ort of the Trustees for the ear ended 31st December2024 Main activities and achievements Volunteers Currently there are 50 befrienders in total with 5 waiting for completion of their training. Befrienders visiting 67 beneficiaries on a weekly basis.This is a 200/0 increase ,compared to last year The recent campaign for new befrienders resulted in l O new volunteer befrienders joining the Charity.. All befrienders have been through an interview process with references being taken up, and a Disclosure and Barring Service check. There is an induction procedure which includes safeguarding training, with the opportunity for first aid and moving and handling training. In addition to the befrienders, there a a number of volunteer roles within the charity such as admin support, interviewing potential befrienders and beneficiaries, matching befrienders to beneficiaries, driving, fundraising, manning the phones, working on the website, promotion and events, BeneficlAries Their are 67 beneficiaries currently registered with our Charity. Barring a few,they are being visted on a weekly basis through volunteer befrinders maintaining the continuity and forging friendship. They enjoy a variety of activities such as horne Visiis, church visils, dancing, shopping and trips out. Local activities: Charity Events: ..Fish and Chips:This has become a gUlar event when all the mebers of the Charity meet at St Mary's Church Hall. On the1310412024 ,a wcll attended lunch event with ample opportunities to mingle and be entertained. See videos posted on our website for more details.. b..Volunteer 'thank you, event:This was organized and funded by the Charity at the F"letcher' s bar, Allerton Mamnor Golf Club, Liverpool on 1810712024.John Parry (professional magician) entertained us with plenty of buffet and refreshments. Feedback from Volunteers stated their appreciation for the care and support received from the Charity. c..Cream tea event on Floating Graee 2910712024:Beneficiaries and Befrinders were taken on a cruise, historic docks and Liverpool Marina, enjoying the City's maritime heritage while enjoying the afternoon tea and cakes. Special guests were Lor Mayor Councillor Richard Kemp and Lady Mayoress ,his wife Erica Kemp with Councillor Mirna Juarez. We bid farewell to one of our younger befriender Mr Abraham Jacob , who supported us with our website maintenance also became a befriender. He has started his new career in the NHS in Essex. We wish him well. e.Christmas lunch originall scheduled for 0611212024 had to be postponed to 1810112025 due to extreme weather conditions.This was well attended with a record 60 attendees. with music and dance. Iyelivorking The Trustees continue networking with four local Doctor Practices, three Churches in Woolton, Livcry)ool Hope University, the Society of St Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Amiy at Strawberry Fields, and local businesses. Mansion House . a.South Liverpool Pilot: WCL has agreed to help two neighbouring communities to set up a Pilot under our umbrella. to start one to one befricnding by inviting Volunteers and setting up a small hub where local GPS in thc area can refer, potential beneficiaries. We have had few referrals from the GP Practices which arc participating in the Pilot(Mather avenue and Storrsdale Medical Centres).The bcfrienders are also recruited from that Community and trained as stated in the Pilot protocol. b.Penny Lane Projeet=At the request of the Lord Mayor Councillor Richard Kemp, the Charity was requested to assist in setting up a similar initiative in the Penny Lanc and surrounding neighbourhood.using Social prescribing model. A meeting attended by all interested parties from NHS GP practices, PCN (Primary care Network), Local Councillors Chaired by the Lord Mayor Councillor Richard Kemp with TTUStees from WCL, took place at Dovedale Towers, 60-Penny Lane, L18 1 DG. Presentations were made by Chair of WCL Dr George Kuruvilla with contributions from Christine Hodkinson as a Befriender for the Charity and Derek Harold as a Trustee/ administrator.Dr John Ashton, MBE, Fornier President of Roayal College of Public Health also spoke briefly It was agreed that we will convene further meeting under the Chairmanship of Councillor Richard Kemp in 4 weeks (date to be decided) to explore this further.WCL has offered to help and guide this process as it rnoves forward. Training All befrienders undergo Safeguarding Training before they can be matched with a beneficiary. Befrienders are also offered Basic First Aid Awareness and moving and handlAng training. One volunteer has completed minibus training. project work and trustees. Safeguarding and First-aid refresher course on 0210312024 by Dr Sunandini Sethuraman, f0rn1er NHS Safegaurding lead with a session on First-aid was well received by the attendees . Polieies and Procedures All policies and procedures are in place, documented and in some cases amended.. Safeguarding training , Befriender Hand book and other relevant documents have been reviewed and updated as appropriate. DBS checking has moved to an online application which is working well. A new Admin team consist of George Kuruvilla (Chair}, Derek Harold (Trustee) and Christine Hodkinson (Befriender) meet regularly to manage rnain administrativc issues. - Funding There have been generous donations and successful fundraising during the year. the details of which are in the financial report. Mayoral Fund was helpful in financing the cruise on Flaoting Grace and other activities including Christmas gifts for a]1 the Beneficiaries &Befriendcrs at Christmas. 11 Financial Review WCL has healthy reserves as at 31 December 2024, which are sufficient to meet the charity's objectives. We are confident therefore that we will continue to operate for the foreseeable future.
