Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 (1) The relief of sickness and preservation
of health of people suffering from Food
Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome
(FPIES), in particular but not exclusively by
the provision of support to families affected
by this condition within the UK.
(2) The advancement of education for the
public benefit by raising awareness of
FPIES within the UK and providing up to
date information and recommendations on
the management of FPIES for patients and
healthcare professionals.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
We have continued to provide support for
families and carers of children with FPIES,
through hosting our website and direct
enquires to the charity.
We previously carried out a survey
amongst parents and carers of children
with FPIES about healthcare professionals’
awareness of FPIES, and this highlighted a
lack of awareness of FPIES amongst
general practitioners (GPs). In response to
this we arranged to attend the annual
conference of the Royal College of General
Practitioners. In collaboration with our
medical advisory board, we produced an
information sheet with relevant information
about FPIES specifically aimed at GPs. At
two-day conference we hosted a stand with
information about FPIES, and we
distributed around 300 copies of our GP
information sheet and were able to engage
many GPs in discussion about FPIES.
None of these GPs reported having any
previous knowledge about FPIES.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Through attendance at the GP conference,
we have been able to raise awareness and
provide information about FPIES amongst
GPs who had no prior knowledge about the
condition. We hope that these GPs will now
be better equipped to recognise FPIES in
their patients, make appropriate referrals
and provide support.
Our website continues to be a valued
source of information for families dealing
with FPIES, in particular our information
sheet on Complementary Feeding in
FPIES.
