Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 1/4/20221 Period start date 31/3/2022 Period end date

Charity name: FPIES UK

Charity registration number: 1159635

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 (1) The relief of sickness and preservation
of health of people suffering from Food
Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome
(FPIES), in particular but not exclusively by
the provision of support to families affected
by this condition within the UK.
(2) The advancement of education for the
public benefit by raising awareness of
FPIES within the UK and providing up to
date information and recommendations on
the management of FPIES for patients and
healthcare professionals.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
We have continued to provide support for
families of children with FPIES, through
resources on our website, our online peer
support group and direct enquires to the
charity.
We have collaborated with specialist
dieticians to produce an information sheet
on Complementary feeding in FPIES, which
is available on request and will be added to
our website.
In order to try and raise awareness of
FPIES, we produced a video as part of
Allergy Awareness week in April. This was
widely shared on social media.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 In planning our activities for the year, we
kept in mind the charity
commissions’ guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 This has been a period of transition for the
Charity, with appointment of a new
Chairperson and Trustee, and 2 of our
Trustees standing down after long periods
of service. The pandemic has meant that
we have not been able to attend medical
conferences, as these have not been
running face-to-face. Consequently, it has
been a quiet year in terms of activity and
new projects.
Our online support group remains a valued
resource for families/carers of babies and
children with FPIES, and this has continued
to grow. We were very pleased to be able
to collaborate with specialist dieticians (one
of whom is a member of our medical board)
and produce an information sheet on
addition of complementary foods in FPIES.
We identified that some people weren’t
able to get information about this in a timely
fashion and the informal feedback that we
have had is that the information sheet has
proved very helpful.
The feedback that we have had suggests
that there is still a lack of
awareness/knowledge about FPIES
amongst healthcare professionals. In future
we will be looking to get back to attending
medical conferences, and will seek other
ways to reach healthcare professionals
(e.g. through publications and existing
online educational resources).
We recruited a new volunteer at the start of
2022, and will look to continue to grow our
team moving forward.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 Our treasurer has helped to ensure that the
finances have been kept up
to date and manageable in this financial
period, and a prudent reserve remains. Our
income (coming primarily from donations
and fundraising by individuals and sales of
our children’s book) in this financial period
was insufficient to cover our costs. We will
plan specific fundraising activities and look
at ways to reduce running costs during the
next financial period.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 We maintain a prudent reserve in order to
respond to any immediate need.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £7902
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 N/A
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 N/A
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 N/A
