Chair’s statement
The sole aim of the Committee continues to be to run the hall for the benefit of the community, to keep the hall warm and in good working condition so that it remains a valuable asset to the community.
During the year the Miller Room, the toilets and the hallway were re-painted.
The hall continues to attract many users - this includes regular hires with classes such as yoga, art, karate, as well as a brass ensemble, a gardeners club, a mothers and toddlers group and the WI. In addition, one-off hires, which account for 25% of booking, continue with weddings, parties – including 30 birthday parties one of which was a 90th, a baby shower, a wake and a family who wanted to have a large family Christmas dinner. In total there were 164 bookings over the period.
The Village Hall Committee would like to encourage more community events - this year it has organised a number of quiz evenings and a boot fair. It is looking to do more but it needs others that are willing to support the running of such events. The Committee is also looking for support from anyone who would be willing to join as a trustee or help with the upkeep of the hall. If anyone does or knows someone who might be interested, they should get in touch.
There was an unfortunate accident in September 2025 that had a significant impact when a car that was parked with its brakes not fully engaged rolled through the atrium wall. Luckily no one was injured but the damage was extensive requiring the atrium wall to be demolished and rebuilt. This meant that there was a knock-on impact to hall users as that room was out of action until November 2025 and hirers had to be moved to different rooms or curtail their activities. The Chair thanked everyone for their understanding over this period.
Luckily the Village Hall insurance policy covered the costs. To ensure something similar does not happen in future the Committee was grateful that the Parish Council installed bollards along the pavement.
The financial situation of the Village Hall remains good.
I’d like to thank the trustees and those who attend monthly committee meetings - it takes a considerable effort to maintain the garden, hall, website, bookings system and making sure everything is in order. I’d also like to thank the hall cleaner, the treasurer and the hall opener for their services.
Treasurer’s Statement
The accounting records have been examined by an independent examiner Patricia Heathfield who confirmed that the records had been kept in accordance with section 145 of the Charities Act 2011.
The total balance in the bank as at 31[st] March 2026 was £36,274.49 and this compared to the previous year balance of £35,296.42.
Interest on the 95-day bank deposit account was £287.83 for the year and on the 32-day bank deposit account £202.07, giving a total for the year £489.90.
Income for the year totalled £22,990.28, down £5,115.22 in comparison to the prior year. The reduction in income was mainly from one of the regular hirers no longer using the hall. There were also less ‘other’ bookings / parties and one of the regular hirers had also used the hall less than the prior year.
The total expenditure for the year was £22,502.11, up £478.70 in comparison to the prior year. The overall income received less expenditure was £488.17 and this compared to £6,082.09 the previous year.
Expenditure on the hall included £2,644.00 for repainting and miscellaneous expenses including new plates, bowls and cutlery for the kitchen.
