## **Objectives and Activities**
The charity's objects are twofold as laid down in the constitution:
1. For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of horses, and other animals, in need of care and in particular to provide and maintain rescue homes and other facilities for the homing, care and treatment of such horses and other animals.
2. To advance education in the Sussex and Surrey area in the care, welfare and management of horses and in the treatment of sick animals. In doing this we will provide a place of recreation for people to come and see and learn about the horses and other animals and spend time with them.
In order to further these objects the charity operates a rescue centre to house and care for neglected and abandoned horses and donkeys.
The aim of the Charity is to care and home as many abandoned and mistreated animals as possible.

Furthermore our charity works alongside

small local charity.
Our main focus for 2023 was to secure new
premises and a local campaign resulted in
vacant premises being found in an ideal
location. The property consists of fields and
industrial buildings, these are large enough
to house the existing field shelters and
sheds, there is also large Nissan style
building which could accommodate all the
donkeys.
The lease was finally signed in July 2023.
During this time the charities main aims were
put on hold and only animals in desperate
need could be taken on. The project to
dismantle the existing facilities, transport,
and rebuild them at the new location took
place. There was a need to reinstate the
area we had vacated back to a field and this
required us to employ external companies to
complete extensive ground works. By
September 2023 all the animals were settled
into their new home. Some emergency
fencing work was completed in order to
secure the perimeter this again was
completed by external contractors. Some
temporary, internal fencing was done to
allow for the separation of animals
Our charity took on two donkeys which were
ceased by another charity were handed over
to us, they were rehabilitate and have since
been rehomed.
The Charity has continued its commitment
to handover long term sponsored horses
and ponies to permanent ownership and this
year seven were handed over .|

this not only raised funds but also presented

neighbourhood and provide a fun days out
for local residents and their pets.
The charity finished the year by hosting
an event for a local autistic charity organised
by our patron, 10+ children and carers visit
to see and touch the animals, have a tea
party and play games.
Two other major contributions to animal
Welfare involves working with other charity
groups these are care for animals in
Ukraine and Greece Animals Rescue
service. We have acted as a hub for the
receiving of food and medical supplies which
are then collected from our site, transported,
and distributed to the abandoned animals in
Ukraine. Furthermore, the charity GARS
uses the horse rescue facilities as a
transition hub for the collection of dogs and
cats which have been rescue in Greece and
transported to the UK where they are
rehomed.|

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

trusts:||Kilmarnock Horse Rescue owns 20 field
shelters although theses consists of 10
structures divided to allow for two horses in
each. A variety of sheds for equipment, food
and medication etc
There is ample opportunity for volunteers,
some work is carried out by casual labour on
an ad hoc bases. The charity is entirely
funded by donations and fund raising
activities these are required to support the
care of the animals, particularly through the
winter months when our food and hay bills
are at their greatest.
Some essential work has been completed be
trades people at a charitable rates but there
are no paid members of staff.
Some funding is also raised by our
sponsorship scheme for some of the animals
on site.|

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/03/2024. **DD / MM / YYYY** .
**Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
