STRUCTURE

The charity is run by the Trustees group, which meets every 6 weeks or so, these meetings are minuted and all decisions documented.

This year has not been a typical year for the charity, in that the County Council wanted to sell the building used by the charity which would essentially have left the charity homeless.

This resulted in a hectic year of fundraising, led by the trustee group and the recently appointed Centre Manager, who in truth had a real baptism of fire.

The fund raising over the year and the building at Newcastle was successfully purchased from the County Council and is now owned by the charity.

Now that the building is owned by the charity we have taken the opportunity to repair and refurbish the building, this will take place over 2024 and the charity will operate from a site in Hanley Stoke on Trent, which will be rented from Stoke on Trent City Council.

The Charity has continued to support veterans in the North Staffordshire area by providing a drop in centre 3 days per week and has a footfall of approximately 120 per week, it also provides a foodbank and works in conjunction with SSAFA, Walking with the Wounded and Veterans UK all of which have representatives that work out of the centre.

During the year there has been no change in the make up of the Truste board, with the main focus being on fundraising for the purchase of the centre.

ACTIVITIES PROVIDED

The Chairity has continued to provide a number of activities in the area of Education, Health and Wellbeing for veterans and also including the local community:

There have also been a couple of one off events, one being a Christmas Carol event at the retreat which was well attended and also a visit to Berlin where a number of veterans were taken to the city and taken around the historical sites. Feedback from those who attended is that the trip was beneficial, educational, interesting and fun. A request has been made that more of these trips should be arranged and is to be considered by the trustees.

ACHIEVEMENTS, PERFORMANCE AND BENEFITS

The Charity holds the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, it holds the Silver award for the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme and is actively working towards the Gold Standard.
