The Trustees present their Report along with the Financial Statements of the Charity for the Year Ended

5 April 2024. The Financial Statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies
set out on pages 9 - 12 and comply with the Trust Deed and applicable law.

The Charity Is controlled by a Deed of Trust, and constitutes an Unincorporated Charity.
Yeovil Gospel Hall Trust 15 constituted by a Deed of Trust dated 24 March 2003. subsequent amending

Deed5, and most recently by a Deed of Variation dated 15 August 2014. The Trust was registered with

the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 8 December 2014 under Charity Registration
Number: 1159514.
Recruitment and A
intment of NewTrustees
The Trustees who have served during the year and since the year end are set out on page l. None of
the Trustees, nor any person connected with them, received any remuneration or expenses from the
Charity in the Year, nor in the preceding financial year.
The Trust operates two Gospel Halls and Trustees are chosen from among the regular congregation of
the halls. New Trustees are nominated by the existing Trustees or by the congregation and must be
appointed by unanlmous resolutlon of the congregation. They are selected according to their skills and
experience and are expected to use both in furthering the objects of the Charity. Checks are made to
ensure the Trustees, eligibility to act and incoming Trustees are made aware of thelr responsibilities by
the existing Trustees, who ensure that new Trustees read the Trust Deed and relevant Charity
Commission guidance.

The Trustees maintain informal links with Trustees of similar Charities with a view to pooling experience
considered useful in pursuing the objects of the Charity- This includes those of the Ivel Gospel Hall Trust,
which also operates Gospel Halls in Yeovil, and with which it shares members of its congregation.

The charitable purposes of the Charity are the advancement of the Christian religion for the public
benefit, includinB by the carryinE on of the service of God in accordance with the Old and New
Testaments of the Holy Bible as followed by those Christians forming part of the world-wide fellowship
know as the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (the "Brethren"l and any other charitable purposes
connected wlth Brethren. The core doctrine of the Brethren and proper practices in furtherance of
certain aspects of doctrine are 5ummarised in two schedules to the Trust Deed.
Public benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty under section 4 of the Charitie5 Act 2011
to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance to charities on public benefit, and in
accord with the further detail on Page 3 under'spreading the Gospel message"

Maln Actlvlties and achlevements
The Trust provides and maintain5 two Gospel Halls together with some temporary accommodation,
where religious meetings are held by the local Brethren community. Details of the origins, teachings and
way of life of the Brethren can be found on their website - www.

The Trusvs main achievement5 this year have been to maintain the Gospel Halls for the continuing use of
the congregation and visitors. It has a150 encouraged works by the congregation, as described below. It
also contributed to the running costs of Halls owned by the Ivel Gospel Hall Trust, which has parallel
objertives.
Meetings normally held at the Gospel halls include the Lord's Supper (Communion}, Gospel preachings,
Bible readinE5 and Bible addresses. There is a structured weekly schedule of meeting5 and, depending
on the particular meeting, between 25 and 390 people normally attend these occasions.
The meetings are attended by the regular congregation and most are open to other properly disposed
Visltors. The notlce board OLrtside the Hall welcomes visitors and displays times of Gospel preachings,
along with a telephone number for those seeking further information or help. Gospel tracts, which are
distributed by street preachers, also display this Information.
Bible5 and an extensive range of other Christian reading material are on display at the main hall and
visitors are free to help themselves.

The Gospel Halls are a base from which the regular congregation and others who attend the meetings are
encouraged to spread the Christian Gospel, in word and deed.
Members of the congregation normally participate in a programme of street preaching and Gospel tracts
are provided free of charge bythe Charityto such preachers and to be handed out to interested members
of the public.
In addition, members of the congregation have undertaken public benefit and outreach work•jointly with
Ivel Gospel Hall Trust.
Such activity included monthly food donations for the homele55, clearing footpaths, litter picking and
cleaning road signs. In addition, members of the congregation supported a separate Charity, the Rapid
Relief Team. in its charitable activities in the local area, including donations of 1,440 water bottles for the
homeless. of Early Bird Learning kits and Smart Break bars to Kingsbury Episcopi Primary School. A
substantial number of meals were provided on occasions of Police and Emergency Services activty. A
detailed Public Benefit Report is attached.
In carrying out this work, the congregation considers itself to be living out its faith in practice, as
particularly exemplified in the following extract from the schedule to the Trust Deed on living a Christian
Life:.
We seek and are encouraged to live exemplary lives in all our relationship5 With other5 in the
wider community (including former Brethren), in accordance with the teachin85 of Holy
Scripture (I rim 2.2)
We regularly go out from our homes to preach on the streets, to distribute Christian literature
and engage with the wider community linclvdlng former Brethren) in order to present eternal
salvation, available to all men by faith in Jesus Christ. {2 rim 4.2).

We seek a5 members of the public to lead Christian lives as husbands and wives, parents,
children, employer5, employees and neighbours. (Col 3.22-25, Col 4.1).
The preservation and protection of the family unit is fundamental and children are prized as a
blessing from God. (Psalm 127.3-5). The elderly are valued members of the community. for
whom both theirfamily and the wider community are expected to care.
Holy Scripture commands us to be good neighbours to others, and deal with all other people
(including former Brethren} openly, honestly and fair￿ and consistent with these principles, we
should give our time, talents and money to asslst those in need in the wider community, in so
far as reasonable given our abilities and our available resources. (Matt 7".12, Matt 22.39. Eph
4:28}.
Volunteers
Yeovil Gospel Hall Trust relies on volunteers to carry out the management, administration and, where
appropriatei general maintenance work. The Trust has no paid staff or paid Trtjstees.
Fundln
Funding Is sought through gifts and donations from the congregation. Grants are sometimes receNed
from other charitable trusts with complementary objectives, Gift aid is also claimed on relevant gifts.

In the Year ended 5 April 2024 the Trust had a deficit amountln8 to £94.913 of Incoming Resources
against Resources Expended on General Fund (after Depreclation charged of £112,1121- Total voluntary
Income received this Year was £157,636 compared to £132,834 in the Yearto 5 April 2023. Monies held
on Bank Account5 at the year end totalled £256,540.
All Funds held were Unrestricted Funds.

The Trustees have considered the level of reserves they wish to retaln, appropriate to the charity's needs.
This is based on the charity'ssize and the level offinancial commitments. The Trustees have a programme
of raising further funds by way of donations and collections, and if necessary loans, In order to fund
intended projects, including that referred to below. The congregation is kept regularly informed of needs
accordingly. includin8 matters referred to in the paragraphs below.
Free reserves at the year end were £257,307.
Plans for Future Perlods
The Trust plans to continue all the current activities.
Following the year end, the Freehold to the Gospel Hall at 133. West Coker Road, Yeovil has been
transferred to the Ivel Gospel Hall Trust at a value of £350,000,
The site at Mason Lane, Montacute, will be subject to furtherdevelopment to create an additional Gospel
Hall, for which budgeted costs could amount to £250,000 approximately.
The Trust also intends to assist the Ivel Gospel Hall Trust, which has parallel objectives. with the
conversion of a property awaiting development, which that Trust has purchased, to a Gospel Hall, subject
to planning permission. This will serve the needs of the congregation In the area of Martock.
Requirements for further Halls in South Petherton and East Coker are current being evaluated.
Despite the increased cost of energy and other overheads, the Trustees feel that such tncreased costs are
not sufficiently impacting on the ability of the charity to continue as a going concern.

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the Financial Statements in
accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally
Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to ch3ritles in England and Wales, the Charities Act 2011, Charity (Accounts and
Reports} Regulations and the provisions of the Trust Deed require the Trustees to prepare Financial
Statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity
and of the incoming resources and appllcation of resources, including the income and expenditure, of
the charity for that period. In preparing those Financial Statements, the Trustees are required to
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently,.
observe the methods and principles in the Charlty SORP;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
prepare the Financial St3tements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to
presume that the Charity wlll continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the Financial
Statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity {Accounts and Reports) Regulations and the
provisions of the Trust Deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and
hence for taking reasonable Steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
All transactions have been reviewed and approved by two Trustees.

I report to the Trustees on my examlnation of the accounts of Yeovil Gospel Hall Trustforthe year ended
5th April 2024, which are set out on pages 7 to 12 and on the Trustee￿ Report for the year comprising
Pages 2 to 5.
RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OFTRUSTEES AND EXAMINER
The Charitvs Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ( the Act,).
I report in respect of my examination of the Tru5t'5 accounts carried out under settion 145 of the 2011
Act and In carrying out my examinatlon I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charitv
Commission under section 145(5llb) of the Act.
BASIS OFTHE INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Direction5 8iven by the Charity
Comrnisslon, An examination Includes a review of the accounting recolds kept by the charity and a
comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual
iterns or disclosures In the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such
matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit
and consequently no opinion Is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair Vie￿ and the
report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below.
INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examination glving me cause to believe that In 3ny material respect:
l) Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act;
or
21 The account5 do not accord with those records,. or
3) The accounts do not compty with the appllcable requirements concerning the form and content
of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any
requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view, which is not a matter considered as
part of an independent examination.
I have no concern5 and have come across no other matters in connection with the examinatlon to which
attention should be drawn in this report in orderto enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be

ACCOUNTING POUCIES
1.1 Basis of Financial Statements
The Financial Statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities:Second
edition of the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charÉties preparing their Accounts in
accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 1021 issued
in October 2019, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland
IFRS 102), and UK Generally AC￿pted Accounting Practice.
The functional currency of the charity is Sterling 1£).
The Charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are inttially
recognised at historical cost or transartion value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.
1.2 Incomin Resources
Donations are recognised in the Year in which the Charity is entitled to and ￿rtain of receipt and the amount
can be measured with reasonable certainty. Income is only deferred when the Charity has to fulfil conditions
before becoming entitled to it or where the donor has specrfied that the income 15 to be expended in a future
year. Gift-Aid is added to the value of the donation to which it relate5.
Donated services are recognised as Income and expendrture in the financial statements when organisations or
individuals offer their services and support pro bono. The value of these donated services to the Trust is
considered to be equal to market value which would be paid were the services formally procured.
Investment Income 15 accounted for on a receivable basis.
1.3 Resources Ex ended
Expenditure Is included on an accruals basis. Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive
obligation committing the charity to pay out resources.
Charitable activities comprise those costs directly attrlbutable to the fulfilment of the Charitable objects.
1.4 Governance and Su ort costs
These costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support costs. Governance costs
comprise all costs involvingthe public accountability of the charity and costs related to statutory requlrements.
Governance and support costs are allocated as stated in Note 7 of these Financial Statements.

Tangible Fixed Assets are stated at C05t less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates per annum,
calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset over its expected useful life as

10. POST BALANCE SHEET EVENT
ND CAPITAL COMMITMENTS
Following the year end, the Freehold to the Gospel Hall at 133, West Coker Road, Yeovil has been transferred
to the Ivel Gospel Hall Trust at a value of £350,000.
The site at Mason Lane, Montacute, will be subject to further development to create an additional Gospel Hall,
for whlch budgeted costs could amount to £250,000 approximately.
The Trust also intends to assist the Ivel Gospel Hall Trust, which has parallel objectives, with the conversion of a
property awaiting development, which that Trust has purchased, to a Gospel Hall, subject to planning
permission. This will Serve the needs of the congregation inthe area of Martock. Requirement5 forfurther Halls
in South Petherton and E35t Coker are current being evaluated.
No other signlficant Post Balance Sheet Events or Capital Commitments have arisen.
11. RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS
al Donations were received during the year from Trustees, and parties connected thereto, totalling £52,537.
In the preceding year such donations totalled £46,362.
bl Transactions with Placket Construction Limited, a company in whlch two Trustees are Director5 and
shareholders and which was constituted to assist Yeovil Gospel Hall Trust with construction and

The purpose of thi5 factual presentation, is to show how the Yeovil Gospel Hall Trust
community engage in many acts of public benefit and interatt with the wider
community in so many ways,
The Plymouth Brethren were established in 1828 when John Nelson Darby broke with
the established Church in Dublin, Darby and others formed a fellowship based on the
Stritt observance of Christian teachings as set out in the Holy Scriptures. Darby came to
Plymouth in the early 1830s and the congregation grew rapidly. Early publications were
produced In Plymouth and distributed to other congregation5 of followers throughout
the globe.

Introduction
There are over 18,000 Plymouth Brethren members in the UK spread across 87 locations. These
locations can be found on the Plymouth Brethren Chrisiian Church (PBCCI UK Site.
There have been Brethren Gospel, or meeting ha115 in Yeovil and the surroundirig areas for over 150
years wth Brethren meeting in Yeovil. East Coker, Langport and South Petherton as long ago as
1850. The Yeovil Gospel Hall Trust was formed in 2014 and is affillated with The Ivel Gospel Hall
rrust which was formed in 1982 to acquire buildings to be used for the advancement of the
Christian religion by carrying on the service of God, including the celebration of the Lord's Supper.
Gospel Preachings, Bible Readings and addresses on the Word of God and other meetings of a
Christian religious charatter according to the injunttlon5 contained in the Holy Scriptures and the
tenets and practices of those Christians forming a worldwide fellowship known as PlymoLrth
Brethren.
The congreg2tion is a medium sized congregaiion compared to other Plymouth Brethren
communities in the UK, with 245 members living in the Yeovil. Martock and South Petherton districts,.
however with residents from the Taunton and Bridwater area attending services up to three times a
weel together with other visitors, numbers attending services regularly exceed 400 persons, from
young babies to nonagenarians.

Street Preaching h35 been actively promoted by the Plymouth Brethren for many years, at
least from the 1020's, and today is enthusiastically supported by members of the Yeovil
Gospel Hall Tru￿ congregation, as we seek to follow the example set out by our Lordjesus
Christ (Luke ch4 v17-20)
The essential activity of publicly preaching the name ofjesus and God's wonderful Gospel
indiscriminately, gives joy and encouragement to our daily lives,, as having personally
proved the tangible benefrt and immense improvement believing injesus brings, we seek to
highlight the availability ofjesus to all mankind.
Currently the main chosen location is in The Borough, Yeovil and street preachings have
been held here since 1950,

Outreach
In our outreach program, we have engaged with centres for the homeless,
vulnerable persons and those experiencing povety.
At the heart of our Community is the commitment to care and compassion, as we
recognise the rights of all humanity within society. Members of the Congregation
dedicate their time volunteering through our charitable arm, Rapis Relief Team
(RRT) and contribute financially to many causes. As Yeovil Gospel Hall Trust, we
actively seek opportunities to support our local community from cleaning road signs
to clearing footpaths, from visiting the elderly in Care Homes to donating to local
charities.

local needs such as homeless and vulnerable persons shelters and schools, the RRT Food
Boxes are designed to feed a family of 4 for to 4 days and bring some relief and joy to

The trust sees that the work carried out by it's members as Volunteers of the Rapid Relief
Team (RRT) is of the utmost importance in the community and has been pleased again to
allow its external facilities to be used as a meeting/gathering point for these volunteers
prior to deployment or community SUPPOrt. Equipment and trailers are stored in the
secure ground of the gospel hall where volunteers can freely access them as much of the
work of RRT is done out of normal operating hours.

Case Study- Dorset Police Missing
Person Search
Members of the congregaiion volunteered for RRT when they had an emergency call out
mid morning on a Wednesday. A person had been reported missing in Dorset and
emergency services were conducting a missing persons search. RRT were called to help
Dorset Police and the emergency services as a13rge number of emergency personnel were
involved.
RRT were quickly mobilised and by 2.30pm were fully set up so they were able to provide
the teams with hot food, teas, coffees, soft drinks and snacks. During the course of the
afternoon and evening they served 61 hot burger meals along with the other refreshments.
The search lasted for three days in total and RRT were asked to remain at the site to
support. Over the course of the three days our team of16 volunteers were able to seNe
more than 130 meals.

Case Study- The Link Yeovil
Members of the congregation have volunteered for a number of years to support The Link
in Yeovil a charity providing Home for the Homeless. Over the long time RRT have been
involved they provided hot meals, sleeping bags, food donation5 and water bottles.
Throughoui the year, and panicularly in the hotter months we have enabled the charity to
ensure their beneficiaries remain hydrated. This year we have donated 1440 bottles of
water.

Case Study- Clearlng footpaths In
Chllthorne Domer
Following a plea from the local parish for assistance to help clear the over grown footpaths
in the village of Chilthorne Domer.
Members of the congregation got together and spent a Saturday clearing back the
encroaching turfand weeds to return the paths 10 a safe clean conditiorb,
The team were on site for several hours and were able to remove all of the debris and soil
away and covered the cost of this disposal. Local residents were very pleased with the
result and the improvement to their environment.
