Trustees have a sound understanding of their undertakings as Trustees before they are nominated at the AGM. It is then up to the members to agree or not to elect them as trustees. In exercising their powers and duties, trustees pay due regard to guidance on ‘public benefit’ as published by the Charity Commission and are satisfied that High Hopes for Children’s purposes meet the public benefit criteria There is no harm in or private benefit arising from these purposes.
## HIGH HOPES FOR CHILDREN CHARITY’S OBJECTIVES
1. To advance the education of children and young people And the relief of people with disabilities worldwide by working with and alongside practitioners and others working in the field, advising and training them to develop skills and awareness, with the object of improving access to high quality, inclusive educational provision for individuals who need support by reason of their infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances.
2. To relieve poverty amongst financially disadvantaged communities worldwide By the provision of training in Assistive Paper Technology including use for the disabled, with the aim of enabling individuals in poverty to manufacture and sell goods to generate a self sustaining income.
3. To provide, or assist in the provision of, facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, Infirmity or disability, hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life, in the interests of social welfare.
These objects are part of High Hopes for Children’s registration with the UK Charity Commission - registration number 1159495.
## Bugangari project - a short history and update:
Prior to 2021 High Hopes for Children invested in the refurbishment of the building in Bugangari. One of our Ugandan partners, Jonnes had the vision to have a clinic for children in this remote area of North Kigezi Diocese, near the Western Rift Valley.

Jonnes is a now a retired Rehabilitation worker and has been the inspiration for this work! The church agreed to this and have been supportive and partners throughout our time there.
In April 2021 Rotary International gave the project over $41,000 for a 3 year project to improve the agriculture and health of the young and their families, especially expectant mothers.
The project was completed in April 2024; I have to say there were many issues and difficulties! But the expanded work now continues and High Hopes for Children are funding this. The funding we give is a great deal more than it was because we are paying several salaries that previously were not needed.
We mourn the loss of one of our dear Trustees, John Smeeth, who passed away in September 2023. He, however, left a Legacy for the charity and with this we have invested in the expansion of the clinic to include a small maternity unit. We are hoping that this improvement will then be approved by the Government and raise it to a Level 3 Clinic and therefore attract Government Funding and make the whole project more sustainable.
Expansion of the clinic – maternity and midwife accommodation.
I am certain we will have some challenges to achieve this status, but we hope and pray that all will be well in the end!
Currently, regular clinics are held for children with cerebral palsy. Children can be given individual therapy and or group therapy with parents being taught how to help their children.
There are club foot clinics with Jonnes assessing the children and following up with serial plaster casts to straighten the feet of babies whilst the bones are still malleable.

Jonnes runs outreach clinics in the surrounding areas. He is working full time now in this area and that is why our costs have increased.
There are children with other conditions such as epilepsy, spinal curvature, children needing hospital assessments with specialists. Over the last 13 years we have been able to help thousands of children!
We have invested £5,500 for phase 1 of the project and the local committee consisting of a village elder, the Arch Deacon, the vicar, Jonnes and others, agreed to put in 25% of the original costs. Phase 1 is now complete. We are waiting for phase 2 to begin.
The completed work will consist of a small maternity unit with accommodation for a midwife, pharmacy and wash rooms.
## Davis’ outreach work
Davis was the specialist teacher at Kisiizi Hospital School and is now Special needs inspector for Rukiga District. He is keen to support pupils and staff to help children achieve their full potential. However, he doesn’t get a budget. One of our kind Trustees has committed to funding part of this with HHfC making it up to £1000 annually.
So far Davis has supported pupils to enter into the Ugandan Paralympics and a conference for Special Needs Teachers!
As a Charity, we were able to help Davis with the costs of getting some of the children in his care to the Paralympics Games.

## SPONSORSHIP
There are currently 17 special needs children being sponsored in three different locations. Their medical and educational needs are many and varied, but it is such a good thing to know that they are being given the opportunities which education opens up for them. They are from humble backgrounds and, without sponsorship, there situation would be hopeless. indeed. We feel privileged that we are able to organise the sponsorship that brings hope to them and their families.
## MEET SOME OF THE CHILDREN:
Mafabi is sponsored by Renate Hallett and is a pupil at Agape Rehabilitation Initiative, the director being Isaac Byonanebye.
Mafabi has three brothers and two sisters and is the only disabled member in the family. His father is a farmer and does all possible to support Mafabi.
Mafabi needs braces to facilitate gait training and weight bearing. The necessary casts have been prepared and the bespoke braces should be ready shortly.
Paorah is sponsored by Hansi Patel. She is 13 years of age and lives with her mother and two siblings.
Her father does nothing to provide for his children but the mother says that she will work as hard as she can to earn money for her children’s education. She is very grateful for the sponsorship HHfC provide.
Michael is sponsored by Carol James. He is 14 years of age and a student at Bwambara Modern Vocational Secondary School.
Sadly his parents separated when he was very young and he is looked after by his grandmother.
According to his teacher, Michael is a diligent pupil, always present for lessons and participating in class activities, although his disability does cause him some limitations.
Harmony is sponsored by Steve and Christine Jefferys and is a at primary school.
Peace is the teacher who keeps us informed about her.
Harmony is 14 years old and is making good progress in maths, English, science and social studies.
She comes from a humble rural background where the family depends on farming for their living. She is one of four children all of whom are at school.
Alice is sponsored by John and is a pupil at Agape Rehabilitation Initiative.
The story of Alice is a sad one. Her father has several wives and her mother deserted her.
One of the stepmothers has done her best but struggles to care for her She is the only one giving her help when Alice goes home. Alan Greenbank
## Financial Report
This year, High Hopes for Children were fortunate enough to receive a large legacy of £23,919.72 which has helped in the building of a new clinic in Bugangari, Uganda.
The work continues and to date, High Hopes for Children have contributed £10,500 for the new clinic.
Also during the financial year 2024/25 the trust has
(1) Funded another clinic (£5,350)
- (2) Supported three classroom assistants at Kisiizi Hospital Primary School (£1,800)
- (3) Sponsored children at Kisiizi and other schools (£6,025)
- (4) Helped with children’s medical fees at hospital (£1,380)
(5) Provided items specifically asked for by the nursing staff (£3,197.69). Further details of the income and expenditure are shown in the table.
Finally, the trust is extremely grateful for all the donations which continue to help disabled children in the future years to come. It is hoped that the level of refurbishment of the clinics to level 3 will initiate Government support for funding in the future. John Orrin
## The future and way forward?
We hope to continue to support the work at the current level. It would be good to get some more vocational training for the sponsored children with low academic attainment or potential, animal husbandry or crafts and agricultural training would be good.
I probably won’t be travelling to Uganda any time soon. My body is not happy travelling such distances in those conditions! We will have to look at Zoom meetings with are colleagues.
We will need to look at our structure and future over the next year. Even my 16 year old grandson asked me what plans I had for succession and sustainability!

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of High Hopes for Children Trust.
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Trust (the Trust) for the year ended 1[st] May 2025. As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent examiner’s statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or
