restrictions on the Club's actlvitles.
2. Significant works to the reseNoir infrastructure by Northumbrlan Water whlch are
scheduled to continue for two years. Thls resulted in a substantial lowerlng of the water
level which made launchlng and recovery of the boats challengin8.

In 2019 the overall level of participation at the club was 1.482, however in 2020 thi5 figure was down
to 209. The F3 Club (Fast, Fun and Freel which had proved incredibly successful in previous years
was particularly badly hit.

Whi15t the event5 of the year conspired to make sailing challenging, the works bein8 undertaken on
the reservolr wlll fesult in a slgnificant improvement to the Club'5 facilities. The principal change 15
the creation of a level, waterside boat park. This will provlde an alternatlve to the existing boat park
which15 on 0 Steep incline. The new boat park will make the storage of boats and their
launchlrecovery far easler which, in turn, should make the Club a more attractlve destination.
In addition to the level boat park, the club progressed plans for the construction of a new stora8e
shed located within the orlglnal boat park. This will provide a more accessible faclllty for the boats in
the new boat Park and will help to service the fleet of club boat5, many of whlch are used for
tralnln8.
As part of thelr works, Northumbrian Water will also create a new dedicated slipway at the western
end of the new boat park. This makes a beach to the west of this slipway more accessible whlch
should be a benefit for parking up at lunchtime and for the provlsion of training.
Associated wlth the new boat park, the Club wlll advance plans for a hut for the Offlcer of the Dav
IOODI. The OOD 5s responsible for the Safety of users on the water and conducts the racing for the
day. Currently the OOD is based outsidelin their car. A dedicated hut will provide a far better
Whilst participation was 518niflcantly reduced in 2020, the Committee has progressed plans to
extend the activities at the club with Wilderness Outdoor Education becomin8 a corporate member
and the club's facilities bein8 shared with the Combined Cadet Force ICCFI.
In addition, paddle craft have continued to L15e the club, albeit in understandably low numbers thls
year.
The Committee continue5 to explore Open Water Swimming with an as5e55ment of the facilities
needed and the mean5 of registering the Reservoir.
Our approach to providin8 watersport opportunities continues to be very much communlty
focussed. The charity has a fleet of 32 sailing dinghies enabling people to participate, whether or

FollowSng the Club's payment for the new shed next to the boat park, the base for the shed has been
excavated with the concrete to be poured and the shed erected in 2021.

We alm to balance our Income lexcludlng 8rants and financial awards) with our expenditure
(excluding grant funded purchasesl.
In 2020, the Club posted a small deficit on our normal activities of £2,391. After recelpt of Covid 19
grant support from Durham County Council and allowing for depreclatlon the club made a modest
surplus of £3.678, slmilar to 2019.
Our cash reseNes are prlmarlly used to pre-fund major purchases that are wholly or partially
covered by grants and awards.
Whllst 2020 has been a difficult year with many of the usual ways in which the club would generate
funds denled due the pandemic, we see no reason to chan8e the way in which we operate and
rnana8e our finances. Our aim remains to maintaln our posltion of beln8 one of the most accessible
communlty water sport club5 in the reBiOn.
