## **INTRODUCTION:**

Bilal Academy is a charity organisation established to cater for the religious, social and educational needs of the community and to provide services for the care and wellbeing of our community.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had its profound impact on delivering our services and loss of income that led to challenges in all areas of charity work. Due to Government guidelines and national lockdown the charity was closed between March 2020 to April 2021.

However, even with these unprecedented challenges Bilal Academy have strived to create a friendly and supportive environment to the community of Walsall with an online presence and remote support via our website, email, and phone.

## **OBJECTIVES:**

Our Doctrine is to promote the teachings of the Quran, the Prophet Muhammad and his companions (peace be upon him and them) as defined and interpreted by the Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamma'ah and expounded by the Pious predecessors (peace be upon them).

We aim to advance the education of the public and young people by providing language classes and recreational activities to develop their capabilities that they may grow to become good citizens.

## **STRUCTURE**

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

## **CHARITABLE OBJECTIVES**

- To advance education for the benefit of the poor, the underprivileged and the general public by means of, but not exclusively, the provision or the assistance in the provision of educational activities and facilities, such as supplementary schools and adult learning programmes, for the benefit of the said persons.

- To advance the religion of Islam, by means of, but not exclusively, promoting the teachings and tenets of Islam, provision of facilities for worship and provision of facilities for Islamic education, in accordance with the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as defined and interpreted by the Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamma'ah school of thought.

- To relieve financial hardship, distress and suffering among poor people, the disabled, victims of natural and man-made disasters and other people in need, by means of, but not exclusively, making grants or loans for providing or paying for food, clothing, equipment, services and facilities for the benefit of the said persons.

- To relieve sickness and to preserve good health among the poor, underprivileged and people in need by means of, but not exclusively, the provision or assistance in the provision of services, equipment, medicines or grants for medical diagnosis and treatment, or provision of health education for the benefit of the said persons;

- To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have

- Need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS & EVENTS:**

## **DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE:**

The Bilal Academy building requires substantial structural work; during the year the first phase of renovation work with of the 1[st] floor was completed with income generation via fund raising and taking loans to complete the build. This has created a financial burden to the charity in repaying the loan over the next 5 years.

The third phase of the renovation is concentrated on getting the ground floor completed.

As the classes have increased vastly after COVID, we are looking to expand our estate.

## **FUTURE ASPIRATIONS:**

- Expansion to Madrasah/Maktab (Islamic education) classes

- Boys Youth Club

- Self-defence Classes for women

- Revert Classes/Workshops

- Activates & Classes for the elderly

- Mothers and toddlers’ classes and activities

- Health and Awareness programme

- IT Classes for the community

- Drug and alcohol awareness programmes
