Mission Statement

To create great opportunities through participation in education, social activities, and the arts for all, regardless of background and ability, to develop life skills, increase confidence, independence and wellbeing.

We believe that all young people, regardless of their physical or mental wellbeing, poverty, or domestic circumstances, should have the opportunity to improve the quality of their lives and their life chances to enable them to grow, develop and be confident members of society.

We see it as our responsibility to develop projects and programmes of activities that will create great opportunities for young people to engage in and enable them to grow in confidence, skill sets and aid them in their future life choices.

Executive Director's report

GO! became a registered charity in November 2014 and was formed by a group of likeminded people who wanted to create opportunities for others, regardless of their background, to increase confidence and wellbeing.

2019/20 has seen a new chapter in our work with young people that has taken us into the virtual work of online training and providing opportunities.

Executive Director Heather Hunter

The impact of Covid meant that the work with Local Authorities to provide clubs and events came completely to an end as did the Storehouse project. Nevertheless, during the lockdowns of the pandemic we were able to continue to be able to continue with our educational project for young people of eighteen years old, who had no formal educational achievements, to pursue vocational Ofqual registered Level 1 and Level 2 certificates in work related subjects such as hygiene, food preparation, manual handling, health and safety, fire warden training. We were able to do this with the assistance of Action for People CIC who provided the funding and expertise to allow us to move forward in this way. Also, by moving the training online this resulted in being able to extend our reach to young people right across the country.

The impact of Covid has made it necessary for the Trustees to reevaluate the work and services that the charity provide. Local authorities are not commissioning clubs and events for a second year and our educational work is currently being funded by Action for People CIC who provide the platform for the online training. To that end the Trustees have decided to close the charity and Action for People CIC have offered free access to their courses and ongoing training to young people.

Our achievement record has been fantastic. In our first six-years we have recorded 4780 hours of clubs and events for young people, 20,490 hours of volunteer time, we have individually assisted 2,100 young people and their families through our clubs and provided 780 hours of 1-2-1 mentoring through job skills. We were pleased to award 34 music scholarships, won the BBC Epic Award for England in 2016 and were twice nominated as Best New Charity in the Charity Times Awards in 2016 and 2017.

We want to thank all of you who have supported us.

Heather Hunter
