Among the children taught at the nursery are some children (currently 3) with special educational needs, with 2 having specialist one to one support from the Specialist Teaching Service. The total number of children currently registered and attending the nursery is 52. Typically these children will attend either morning or afternoon sessions. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. ## **Notes** The deficit in the year has arisen primarily due to a timing difference relating to payments received from Kent County Council each year. The payment of £17,220 on 27 August 2019 was included in the previous year and the payment of £21,248 on 2 September 2020 will be included in the following year. The Trustees have responsibility for setting a budget and monitoring expenditure during the year, in order the Nursery gets best value from the funds allocated from the government and nursery fees collated. This is to ensure that the children obtain maximum benefit from the limited resources available. The Trustees are very grateful to the parents, staff and friends who continue to give financial support and help maintain the nursery to its high standard. The trustees confirm, in accordance with the Charitable Incorporated Organisations (General) Regulations 2012, that at year end the CIO did not have any outstanding guarantees to third parties nor any debts secured on assets of the CIO.
