ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING 31[ST] DECEMBER 2021 (Report as of 31[st] December 2021)

Overview

Assalam-O-Alaikum –

Respected brothers of Kokni Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the Annual General Meeting.

I thank you all for having spared your valuable time and made it convenient to attend and thank you for being an invaluable part of this growing community.

Chairman’s Summary

On behalf of the Management Committee, it is my honour and pleasure to present to you all our annual report for 2021.

Last year we were unable to hold the AGM due to the government guidelines, instead you received our end of year report.

Operations of an organisation is very easy if everyone plays a role and helps the management, but it only gets hard if everyone stays away and expect the same heads to manage everything.

Nobody will ever find any time for anything. If we want time, we have to make it.

Everyone is busy in their own little world, but everyone can make some time towards the community which is your very own. As there will come a time: where you’ll worry about yesterday.

Looking back to Look ahead

In life there are events within events, moments that shape the moment of success or moments that stay in the mind beyond imagination, moments that have made a lasting impression, moments that are timeless memories and moments that we want to forget – this is how moments shape our lives, as every moment is an experience.

Masjid-e-Saliheen has come a long way; the 25 years have passed like it was just yesterday.

We have never thought of those people that had lived a dream to make this a success story, they sacrificed their time and their life only so that we can have a comfortable life and take this legacy forward.

We have gone through the toughest of moments and we’ve had challenges after challenges we’ve had a few mis-management spells also faced the most severe spell of a thunderstorm that nearly blew everything away, and all members remained silent, it was a lone digni battle (with assistance from a selected few that came in to help me steady the ship) – but it was worth the effort to save the dignity, self-esteem and humility of our elders.

It’s now time to pass on the baton – the way we remember our elders, I’m hoping the next generation would remember us.

Sometimes in life we have to keep reminding ourselves that our identity is because of our parents that came to this country without a word of English, to give us a comfortable life, they struggled but they survived.

Struggles teach you a lot of things, and I’ve witnessed such roller coaster rides.

The generation of today and tomorrow, have got everything handed on a silver platter. So it’s very important they know that our journey wasn’t easy, a journey that’s full of struggles and a journey full of life’s experiences.

A New Direction

A journey is never ending, there’s always going to be improvements and growth.

The improvements will begin with a different approach to having a committee.

A committee that will have sub-committees and each sub-committee will have a representative to attend the main committee.

We want members to join the committee who will have the skill set to match each category and this will give us the growth in many ways.

Leadership

Leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example. A leader should see what others can’t; leadership is defined by vision, passion, inspiration and conviction.

A leader that has his eyes on everything we do: a leader that knows his accounts, a leader that knows his administration, a leader that knows the governance of running a charity organisation, a leader that knows all the rules and regulations and a leader who can make instant and critical decisions.

Our Aims & Objectives

At the turn of the year we had quite a few jobs that were pending which are as following:

  1. To install the heating system on the ground floor in the hall.

  2. Install CCTV system around the Masjid.

  3. To renovate the Ghusl room and increase on square footage to give ample space.

  4. Fundraising events were also drawn up.

How we started

We had our meetings to discuss on a way forward, and it was decided that we’ll put up a project to collect the funds during the month of Ramadan.

Instead of just one project we planned to have two projects at an approximate funding requirement of £18,000

  1. Heating system for ground floor in the hall (Target was £6,000)

  2. CCTV system throughout the entire building and compounds (Target - £12,000)

Alhamdulill’ah this was achieved with everyone’s generosity.

The next project is the completion of the entire kitchen and ghusl room, approx. costing is £76,000, this may change due to a surge in demand for products and services and prices continuously increasing.

For this Ghusl Room there are 2 options at hand.

Option 1: To renovate the flat roof (just the roof alone would be costing approx. £40,000 – £45,000

The balance is for renovating the ghusl room for the electrics, interior fixtures & fittings.

Option 2: Demolish the entire flat roof section – the kitchen and existing ghusl room – approx. £100,000 Re-build so it’s purpose built and sectioned off with a pitched roof.

Building Works & Maintenance

The funds that were raised throughout Ramadan: for the heating system & CCTV.

The heating system has now been installed and work is in progress for the CCTV system which should be completed by the end of the month.

Ramadan

Due to restrictions, we had two taraweeh’s, which worked extremely well and gave the youngsters some encouragement and we should carry on with this so they get more confidence and experience.

Imam’s

Our Imaam resigned from his duties on Friday 16th of July 2021.

We thank all the people that covered the duties for 12 weeks, whilst we were searching for a new Imam.

Two Imams’ were assigned and they commenced their duties as of 6[th] of October 2021 - the main Imam would cover 5 days and the other Imam would cover the weekends.

They commenced with a contract of a 13 week probationary period. A review is overdue, which will be carried out on 1[st] Feb 2022.

New Application & Removal

New Applications: We have had five new members joining our family at Kokni Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen,

Removal: This is the first time in our history that a member of Kokni Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen has been removed from our membership list for inappropriate behaviour.

After many warnings, such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Membership Fees

Although it is becoming harder to raise money, we kindly suggest to all our members to pay their fees before the first quarter ends if not at least before the second quarter at the latest.

It is our duty to pay annual fees on time; you don’t need to be sent a reminder.

Membership

We members of Kokni Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen have to understand one thing that we are not members of the Masjid this announcement was made back in 2008.

A masjid belongs to Allah, and is not in the ownership of anyone.

We are all members of the Jamaat and being members of the Jamaat we are the custodians of the entire plot and building. We cannot turn away anyone wanting to come and pray.

Discussions have always been ongoing in regards to increasing the membership fees; and we have decided that the fees will remain the Instead we have introduced a Maintenance Donation scheme, and this will give an opportunity for everyone to take part. And it is only fair that they are all given the same welcome as this is also their local Masjid, and not feel that this is a Kokni Masjid.

Maintenance Donation

We have had mussallee’s wanting to be members of the Masjid but a masjid belongs to Allah, and is not in the ownership of anyone, hence a Masjid Does not require membership.

So it is only right that everyone plays their part in sustaining the Masjid, all the regular mussallee’s can become a part of paying an annual maintenance donation. This is not compulsory on anyone; our members can also take part. There will be a chart going up with everyone’s contribution only to encourage everyone that care for this Masjid.

Home Lillah Boxes

All of you should have received your new Home Lillah Boxes, on there is a sticker – which actually states that if your box is full then please empty your own boxes and bring the Lillah to the Masjid on your next visit.

This again will save substantial time; this time could be used elsewhere.

Nikah & Civil Marriage

We have now applied for a license for civil marriage’s to take place and once we’ve received the license we will appoint our very own registrars.

Nikah and Civil Marriage will be able to take place in tandem.

COViD Vaccination & Summer Camp

Started off with a two day vaccination program, that was without a fee.

Then we had an eight week vaccination program which was quite healthy in terms of hire charges.

A Summer Camp took place for 16 days (4 days per week and 4 hours per day) through IMO; Alhamdulill’ah the invoice total for this event was very good.

COViD

It has been a difficult couple of years in light of the global pandemic that we as a community have been tested with.

It has been a great reminder of how things can change so swiftly if Allah (swt) wills and it has provided a perspective for us, to realise what is truly important in life.

I thank almighty Allah for saving us from the pandemic and slowly returning our life to normal.

I would like to extend my prayers for all the victims of COViD19.

May Allah (swt) grant all brothers and sisters who lost their lives, the highest place in Jannah.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those who have lost loved ones during this difficult time. “Indeed with every difficulty comes ease”

Public Health

Received a phone call from BwD Borough council and said that they’ve received reports of all the Mosques visited by public health officials during these worst times and Masjid-e-Saliheen and Jaame-al-Hashmi have been the two standout mosques in east Lancashire.

Especially - Masjid-e-Saliheen who had the most robust and COViD compliant practices in place.

This credit goes to all the volunteers that did all the work to keep our Masjid clean & safe.

On behalf of the Management Committee I would like to thank you all for respecting the guidelines that were set during the past two years which we all want to forget.

Fun day

Another great success story, a lot of hard work – most of the credit goes out to our deputy treasure; he has made us all proud, very eager and wants to jump up and touch the sky. For the very first time someone has kept me on my toes.

Family Fajr Week

This has to be one of the best spiritual journeys we’ve had in the 25 years, and that is to have everyone in the Masjid to pray together. A week, the mothers & Kids enjoyed. Again, our deputy treasure has been the front-runner – full of energy getting all the shopping every day. It’s not been easy but it was fun.

Would also thank the one person who sponsored the full breakfast; and that for the full week.

Memorial Evening

An event held once again to remember all members in our local community who had fought a hard battle with the novel disease that has impacted our lives, our way of living and that is something we want to forget.

An evening that would comfort the families that have lost their loved ones, due to lockdown restrictions, opportunities for relatives, friends and neighbors to offer their condolences have been very limited.

Unfortunately, this was a disaster of the way it was managed. Every event should be discussed & planned before executing.

What is a Masjid?

This was the final segment of our events held, a lot of interest was shown before the event but the timing was very poor, as so was the execution of the contents.

It was not delivered as we would have liked it.

Appreciation

On behalf of Kokni Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen as a whole, we thank everyone who have helped us in our progress and look forward to building on this success next year. Our work and achievements are only made possible by the generosity, commitment, passion and enthusiasm of all those who support Masjid-e-Saliheen.

We give our most sincere thanks to all who have given to us their support over the year from volunteering to your kind donations.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the heartbeat of the function of any Masjid, it is because of these committed members the Masjid operates smoothly to welcome the mussallee’s.

Volunteering in the house of Allah is a great honor; through this service is the honor that will be given by Allah (swt) on the day of judgement to those who had a connection and attachment with the house of Allah (swt).

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I feel privileged to thank every member, who played a vital role in keeping our Masjid safe and COViD free. Without their support and tireless efforts we could not be where we are today.

The Management Committee

Finally no organisation will succeed if we fail to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of certain members who have made a tremendous amount of contribution of their time and energy.

This young team in the office, is doing an outstanding job, they’re energetic but will learn through experiences.

All the officials are doing an exceptional job in their respective posts; it will be unfair to point out any individuals.

One thing to remember is no matter who you work for, what your experience is: every establishment is different and to serve the establishment the purpose is different.

We are here to provide a service which would suit our organisation the best.

The Trustees

As a whole, the trustees are normally the silent partners; this is the first term that our trustees are showing their interest in playing a pivotal role, this is because we have a team that is likeminded.

Finally

Masjid-e-Saliheen still has a long way to go; this can only be done with a dedicated team that knows how to keep moving forward, a team that is eager to listen learn and adapt.

The coming year will undoubtedly throw up more challenges, the road to success is full of lessons from failure, making mistakes, and facing challenges.

You cannot succeed if you don’t experience failure. It’s how you deal with failure that determines how successful you can be as leaders of the community.

Challenges can be amazing learning experiences – things that force you to grow and change.

We are genuinely excited to see how we move forward in 2022; hopefully it should be a year to finally replace fear with pride and rejoice with the community.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your unwavering support.
