A slrategic plan is produced to provide the direction and fo¢us for work duiing a three-year period. The plan is reviewed each year by the Honorary Officèrs, Council, Exe¢utive Director. Rabbis, sènior members of slaff and Commiltee Chairs. It provides the framework for the programme of sèrvices, aGliville$ and evenls for thè next year, which is then used lo produce an updated strategic plan and annual budget. Both Ihe plan and budg81 are approved by Council. Progress against the plan and quartedy management accounts are analysed regularly and reported to the Honorary Officers and Council. The Ihree-year Strategic Plan, 'Reaching our Goals., was developed in early 2022 and has now been successfully cornpleled with a new three year Strategic Plan being developed. The 2022-24 plan allowed the Synagogue and ils commill8es lo focus on both the immediate issues and the medium-l¢mi future. along with the c051 and impact they would have on the Synagogue. The new Movement represents around 30°h of synagogue affiliated Jews with the goal of rèaching out to roughly the saffle percentage of non-affilialod Jews who are known lo align with Progressive Jewish values. Wth this in mind the Movemenl has a mission to'.- Str&nglhen communilles Amplify Progressive voices Inspire thfy next generation Opgn dooTS lo Jewish life The naw Movement eamg into being as a Company on the 7. January 2026 and w& await lo see the positive impact il will have and how we can work with it. Religious services for Shabb81 and festivals, as well as lrfe-cycle celebrations. are central lo Ihe LJS and are led by Senior Rabbi Alexandra Wright, Rabbi Igor Zinkov and Rabbi Lily Solochek. All our services in 2025 were hybrid, available on both Zoom and the dedicated LJS YouTube channel. In Septernber, Ihe Rabbinic team was bolstered by the arrival of Rabbi Lily Solochek who, as well as conlribuling lo thè services, has created a number of new Kulanu evènts and initiatives. We were delighted to hav6 a very impr6ssive atlendance, both in pèrson and online, on shabbats, during the High Holy Days and al other feslivals and c6lebralions, helping lo build and cement the community atmosphere and togethèmess which has increased since the terrible events in Israel on 7 October 2023 and in Manchesler on Yom Kippur 2025. Community work and events linked to sorvi¢es continues and goes f¥om strength Ic* strength with a large number of Nosh and Drosh lunches and talks, Chavurah suppers and nèw Kulanu events being held. Rimon ieslruclured al th& end of 2024 and welcomed Rabbi Elana Dellal as Director ol Youth and FartTrily Engagement. Under the Chairmanship of Scotl Dinwiddie, the Edu¢8lion Committeè was re-establishèd looking at ways to support Rabbi Elana in the ever continuing quest lo improve Rlmon and also lo involve and link Rimon lo the wider life of the synagogue. Rimon numbers continue lo rise, and the curriculum is constantly being reviewed and developed. Security risks. post the Yorn Kippur synagogue allack 2025. meant that the Drop In wa$ paused for a number of months. The core LJS community offer provides much needed 8UPPOrt lo a key demographic of the community and whilst well eslabli$hed, their amazbng work should not be overlooked or taken for granled. Events such as Video & Tea, Singing for the Mind, and thè Out & About Club grow in numbers 8llending with some of our events having wailing lists. The annual Keep In Touch tea party was a huge success whilst th8 much needed Drop-in for Asylum Seeker Familles ¢ontinues lo deliver much needed support for the most vulnerable of our ext6nded community. A hardy antl dèdicated nurnbér of voluntee¥s vlsileil the cemetery lo help clear ivy and tidy areas of th& cemetery. This included the planting of an empty area in fronl of the new toilets, a true community effort. The bereavernent group provides both much needed support and soryal opportunities. The LJS also continues to work partnership with local organisalions for thé public benefit of the isolated, eldgrly and disabled. When feasible, we also offer selecled charities the opportunity lo hire rooms al Ihts LJS at a preferential rale lo host their own galherlngs and meetings. It is now one of the leading synagogues of the new movement. Financial support was provided to LJ and also lo Leo Baeck College. which is the primary academic and education inslitsjtion for European Progressive Judaism. where many Progrèssive rabbis ara trained. The LJS also provides a home lor the West Central Liberal Chavurah Club. This club was formed by the remaining members of We51 Central Synagogue followlng its closuie and holds a monthly chavur8h al the LJS. The LJS is also a member of the Bo3rd of Deputies ol Biilish Jews. the body which repie8ents the UK Jewish community. Five mernbers of the congregation serve as reprÈsentalives, ong of them representing younger members, and they play an acllve part in determining Board policy. Public benefit In addition lo ils religious and edu¢atlonal aims, the LJS functions as a centre lor communal activities lo which both tnembers and the wider community are re9ularly welcomed. This past year was a year of growth. The magnificent organisers and volunteers who 8UPPOrt the Synagogue with 8nlhusiasm and drive are an inspiration lo all those who allend. The Synagogue Coundl has identified that one of their key ch811enges is tha future suslainabilily of the synagogue, both in ie5pect of growing membership and managing finances, which are inextricably linked. There is an ageing membership population which is well sèrved by a numb&r of excellelll initialivos. However. whilst looking al those undef 60, il was identified that there was much less being offered lo add value to thair membership and attra¢t new members ol that age. and bring them into the LJS Community. A naw 3 year Strategic Plan was launched in 2025 with a focus on the growth and future susl8lnabilily of the LJS. The strategy focuses on five key groups identified by the Council.. Challenges identified lor the first year of the slralogy included: a membership fee review., the employmenl of an additlonal Rabbi,. the restructure of Rimon, and the planning ol new initiatives in respect of the groups hiuhlighted above. M8ny ol the above are being suc¢èssfully delivered,, however the oul¢omes will be seen over lime and constantly monitored. The finan¢ial sustainability of the LJS is dependent upon th& contribution of membership fees and other funding. A significant number of Membèrs and Friends pay spec4ally agrtr8d reduced rates. No one is evei ex¢luded by their inability lo pay. The Sorial Action Committee continues lo lead inilialives and participates in numerous actlvhies within the communily and beyond lo improve sustainability. We seek lo.. help reduce emissions which impact on our ènvironment and contribute lo global warming,. reduce the use of plastics and waste of all kinds, and reduce the use of limited and v8luable resources. The LJS manages its own fundraSsing led by the President and Members and Friends who volunteer, together with adminislralivé support by the staff team. In 2025 a new Fundraising Committee wa5 Crèated lo ensure that fundraising happened by design rather than by luck. For examplè, the firsl Gala Dinner was held in 2025 with Felicity Kendal and Tracy-Ann Oberman being Ihe star guests. The event went extremely well and faised over £20,000. All fundraising activities alè approved and supervised by the Honofary Officers and Council. This limited company was also r6gislered as a ¢harily Icharily number 11592921 with the Charity Commission in November 2014. Prior to incorporation the LJS was an unin¢orporaled charitable organisalion. The members of the Council act as Trustees and adrninisler the chaiily and also a¢t as the D1￿ClOrS ol the charitable company. The Council can have up to 12 members, bul has the ability lo co-opt extra rnembers unlll the following AGM. It mèets monthly (except August). All committees and working groups meet on a règular basis and provide recommendations lo the Council for decision making. The Coun¢ll appoinls an Execulwe Director lo act in stewardship and rnanage the d8y-lo-day running of the organisalion. During 2025, the Trustèes. supported by the Finance, Operational. Risk and Governance Commillee, reviewed the Charity Govemance Code and identified a number of actions to improve the Governance of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue. Thls work is ongoing with governance of the LJS being reviewed on an annual basis. Appointment of Trustees The LJS articles were updated in 2023. bringing Ihern more in line wth the Charity Commission'5 Goveman Codè and modern charity standards.
