Emmanuel Church, Hastings
Trustees Annual Report for 2021
Our mission and vlsion
The PCC has the responsibility of co-operatin8 wlth the incumbent. the Revd Martln Lane, in promotin8 the whole
mission of the Church, pastoral. evangelistlc, social and ecumenical.
At Emmanuel, we have stated our mission as follows..
Our MI￿lOn Is to help people of our town and k*cal Community become fully<ommlttèd followers of
Jesus.
We have summarlsed our vlsion for Emmanuel in the following statement:
Imagine a church th3t'5 floodlng its local communty with the light of the gospel and making a vlslble
difference to the lfves of all kinds of people.. that's what we lon8 to see at Emmanuel Church, on the
West Hill of Hastings, to the glory of God.
As we look to the future we envlsion a growing and dynamlc, gospel-hearted church, full of men,
women, and children who find thelr identty In Christ and rejoice in livlng for hlm. It'5 a ch(trch wlth
multiple, vibrant 805pel mlnistries for all ages with trained and trustworthy leaders: where faithful bible
teaching Is valued and expected.. where the gospel Is pro¢lalmed with ur8enLy and purpose. It's a
¢hur¢h of dlsciple-makin8 d15ciples,' where members are eJ¢perlencln8 the lrfe-changing powei of the
gospel and helpin8 oiher5 to experlence It too.
It's an others-focused church where we cherish one another In Chr551: a tamily of believers who thlnk
of one another before themsefves and 8ladly accept sacrrfice for each other's sake,. where we love one
nother In piactical ways and everyone gives and receives. It's a Church In which relatlonshlps are loyal,
supportive and accountable,. where names are remembered and absence 15 notlced,. where we loln
together to laugh and cry. challenge and en￿urage, pray and pralse.
It's an outward-looking church that works for the g¢)od of our kntal community and seeks the lost wlth
the gospel of grace in creatlve and retevant ways,. a place where the needy find help, the broken flnd
heallng, the lonely find friendshlp, and all hear the offer of new life in Christ. It's a church that's
committed to supporting other gospel mlnistrles. In the UK and overseas, by givln8 Its money and
5endlng its people to seNe In various ways.
This is our dream. We belleve, under G¢)d. It wlll soon be realty. and we invtte you to be part of It.
What we planned to do to achieve our mlsslon
Over the past year, we have sought to:
enable as many people as possible to participate in the Itfe of our Church:

For the first two month5 of the year we provided all our services online due to the impact of the coronavirus

gradually increased, particularly in July when we We￿ 3ble to start singing again.
As normal, refreshments were seNed in a safe way after our service5 for anyone who Ilked to stay for an informal

We loveto welcome familles to the church and ran a sunday Club and supervised crèche every Sunday mornin8 during

It was possible to run a Christianity Explored course once during the year, for those wishing to find out more about

Teaching. baptising ond nurturing new and exirtlng bellevers
Our main teachlng happens during our Sunday services when we gather together around God's word, the Bible. This

Durlng the week, members of the church meet in home groups. Every member of the church is encDura8ed to join a
home group.
These groups have continued to rneet throughout the year. during daytimes and evenings, providing further
opportunities for small Broups to study the Bible and pray tO8èther. We meet in small groups to support an
encourage each other as we seek to grow in Christian maturity. When unable to meet In per50n, the groups have
met through online platforms Such as Zoom and Skype. The groups contain 3 mixture of new and existing bellevers.
We provide one-to-one Bible studies for those who are hungry to study the 8tble, either 35 interested seeker5 or to
glow as disciples of Jesus, and the number of people requesting these one-to-one Bible sttrdies is Increasing. These
Bible studles have happened mostly through online platfomis such as Zoom and Skype.
Once a month we set aside a Tuesday evening and a Wednesday mornln8 to gather tO8ether as a church famlly to
