attoss the borough of Southend on Sea. In addition to social events a￿1 volunteers meetin85, these
member5 are invited to meet twice a y¢ar- one of these occasions bein8 the AGM of the
organisation. Trustees are eletted by the mernber5 at the AGM. Al each AGM one third ofthe
Trustees- those who ha￿ seNed longest since their last e*rtlDn- must retlrebLrt are eligible for re-
elettion unless they have servL¥Jthree wnsecytNe terms. when they a￿ not eligible for e￿￿10n for
further two years. ThE Trustees are responsible for the 8overn8n¢e of the CIO.

tnjsw and manages the day tsi day ruming of thE Centre. ThrEe volunteerdebtwaches have now
been tralned and to 5YPPOrt them are approximately 50 volunteers, who art a5 befrlenders forour
clients.
The organisatlon works In parrfiershlp wlth Christlans Agaln5r Poverty ICAPI. based in Bradford. They
aleaC￿ed¥1ed by the Financlal Condurt Authority to providefinancial ané legal sllPPOrt and advKe

Dur work has resutted In benefft to the publk. From rhe moment peorAe becorr* cllents, all
dlscu5$1ons wSth credltor5are handled by thrlstlans Against Poverty and d￿ntS recelve a bud8et to
help them manage t￿11 flnances. Th￿ act5ons have the effect of relievlro clients ofa 8reat deal of
stress and pressuie. Although the effects of thls vary from cllentto for manyth15 results In an
Improvement in Wel￿b￿n8 and a reductlon In mental health problems.

New cllents were put on hold atthe start ol the pandemlc due to the need to change worklng
procedures to telephone meeYnKs rather than fac*t￿f4Ce, Tht Centre Manager reduced hls hours
to 16 for the Perk￿ Aprll through to July. In August these returned to the 20 hours per week b*d
cm the demand and work load.
We have always held a sum equlvalentto at least ten morths. expendlture In reserve. If, at any
me. reserves were to drop below nine months, costs, the tru5tee5 would attwety putsue additional
extèrnal grant fundin8 and assèss the current operational strurturé of the charlty.
Expendiwre is used to support key Dbiectives. The largest costs are thesalary of the Centre
Manager and fees pald to Ch￿st13n5 A8aln5t PLwerty headquarteis in Bradford a5 a contrltrthon
towards their professional financial ind legal services on behalf of eui clSents.
We are fortunate io have capable trustees who provide a good level of governartce voluntarily. We
also have enthusiastic voluntee15 who organise fundraisn8 and manage Ot￿r administratwe
functions. This enables usto spend a very hl8h prtJportiDn of ow Income dir￿tlY on our charFtable
ObJect￿e5.
