Trustees Annual Report 1[st ] January 2021 to 31[st ] December 2021

The Trustees present their annual report along with the receipts and payments statement of the charity for the financial year ending 31 December 2021. Change 1’s Life is a charity registered with the charity commission; 1159172.

Mission Statement

For the public benefit, the relief and assistance of people in need in Sub-Saharan Africa who are the victims of poverty and natural disaster or catastrophe by supplying them with food, water, clothes, medical aid, and education and to further such other purposes which may be charitable according to the law of England and Wales as the trustees see fit from time to time.

Activities and Projects

Children are at the heart of the charity's work, and we aim to ensure that underprivileged children have access to education, medical assistance, and a safe environment to live in, play and grow. This is achieved by implementing sustainable development projects across sub-Saharan Africa for education, food security, entrepreneurship, and health in less privileged communities.

• Educational Projects

The charity runs weekly voluntary classes to help facilitate people’s integration into society through language, communication skills, mathematics, and basic needs (see link below).

• Textile Project

This project aims to ensure that people (especially children) have access to suitable clothing all year round. This will prevent people from becoming ill due to inadequate projection from weather conditions, particularly in the winter. The charity ships 1 to 3 40ft containers from the United Kingdom to Africa

yearly, full of donations that help aid those in need and this is done through the help of our international partners and donors (watch video below).

Project Light

The Light project provides substantial short, medium, and long-term solutions to Africa’s energy crisis. We provide access to light for less privileged communities in Angola through our solar Helix, which are lightweight portable and eco-friendly solarpowered lights (watch video below).

How we work

The charity delivers its aims by implementing well-structured, adequate, and sustainable projects in the various countries it operates in Africa with the support of regular donors within the UK and beyond. The charity has established local teams led by local volunteers who represent and carry out the charity’s mission together with the trustees who run the charity voluntarily and travel to Africa regularly to work with the teams. Moreover, we build strong networks and partnerships with private and public sector bodies who facilitate our work and help us achieve our objectives.

Voluntary help and gifts in kind

The trustees are extremely grateful to all the people that believe in our work. They have helped the charity by volunteering their time carrying out fundraising activities, in particular those who work with us across sub-Saharan Africa helping to implement and maintain our projects. Although monetary donations are still scarce, the public and local businesses have generously provided gifts in kind, mainly donations of clothing and other materials which are detrimental to our objectives. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to carry out all the work we do.

What we did in 2021: Action and Financial Review 2021

During the year funds have been raised from individual donors from the United Kingdom and the United States with the total amount raised of £28,754.23 (twentyeight thousand, seven hundred and fifty-four pounds and twenty-three pence). Particular emphasis to Basketball superstar and Houston Rocket Player Bruno Fernando who donated £17,730.79 (seventeen thousand, seven hundred and thirty pounds and seventy-nine pence) to our charity to support our work in Angola. Total income was used to launch three new projects in Angola, ship two 40ft containers full of donations from the United Kingdom to Africa (Angola), and run various large-scale humanitarian missions such as the annual health fair in rural communities and Cancer

Awareness Month. We managed to impact over 550,000 more people in the 2021 financial year. The projects are presented below with their respective links for visual content:

Angola Zero Hunger Project

This project aims to combat hunger in Angola in a practical, effective, sustainable, and ecological manner by creating a solar-powered Mobile Food Bank to feed the hungry and educate the poor daily. Despite its social component, the project also brings an environmental component by promoting renewable energy, by fighting pollution while promoting sustainability. Main objectives of the project:

Provide meals to people who are totally or partially away from access to food, especially children.
Educate the population about the civic importance of our new social reality (responsibility, participation, prevention).
Boost volunteering opportunities and showcase the importance of helping one another.
Promote innovation and the protection of the environment.

KidiMuene Lab Project

Education is indeed one of the most critical weapons in the fight against Poverty, and we continue to believe that if children are given the necessary tools to succeed, they will succeed beyond their wildest dreams. Our KidiMuene Lab Project consists of transforming shipping containers into a digital and multifunctional classroom that aims to provide quality digital inclusion and vocational education in rural Angola.

Main objectives:

Promote the advancement of learning rates in rural areas through educational informatics.
Present new forms of knowledge through the proper use of new information and education technologies.
Promote digital inclusion
Train youth in rural areas with vocational courses.
Provide financial education to local farmers
Connect the location with the global.

Playground Initiative

This project aims to promote a safe environment for less privileged children to play whilst being safe and dreaming freely. This is particularly important to ensure young people have access to safe places to play and enjoy their childhood. We do this by building playing grounds for children to support our other projects in the field of education and healthcare while at the core of it having a place in rural communities where children can find happiness and build a real sense of belonging and community that helps them integrate into society and be good citizens for the future.

Due to the impact of these projects, our work was featured in the One Young World 2021 Impact Report, and our founder was indicated as one of the youths with the most social impact in the world. We have been featured in many magazines, journals, and TV channels, increased our visibility at local and global levels, doubled the number of donors and volunteers, and impacted the lives of more people. This has also marked the best year of our charity financially, showcasing how much our work is growing despite our limitations of lack of resources.

At this moment in time, we are still unable to hold reserves which are extremely important for the smooth running of the charity. Still, the future looks bright, and this financial year represents a shift in our prospects in terms of financial stability. Due to the lack of fundraising by the public and combined with the fact that the charity does not sell any of the material donations it receives, the charity’s financial position remains an ongoing concern despite the positive signs over the last few years. The trustees try their hardest to raise funds and help by personally donating when needed.

Plans for the future

We aim to continue establishing new long-term partnerships internationally and locally while growing the number of donors and beneficiaries. As we managed to achieve beyond our expectations both financially and socially for the year 2021, we are confident that we can reach 5 million people in the next five years and implement and replicate projects such as our Digital and Ecological Villages. We also aim to have an operational and well-structured headquarters in 3 more countries in Africa like the one we already have in Luanda (Angola) to ensure that the cycle of our work is smooth and able to respond to the needs of our beneficiaries at all times. We also plan to open our first charity shop in the United Kingdom and create a Change 1’s Life App to connect all parts of the charity to facilitate the process of donating and reduce the amount of time we spend doing hand labour. Moreover, we plan to ship five containers full of donations to Africa in 2022 and reach financial donations beyond

£100,000 in the next two to three years. Our main goal for the next five years is to become the leading global charity operating for the betterment of Africa.

Objective, Structure and Governance

Our legal Objectives:

Change 1’s Life is an international charity with no political or religious ties, established in 2014. It is run as a charity incorporated organisation, registered with the charity commission. Change 1’s Life describes its charity objectives as being.

“To relief poverty and financial hardship in sub-Saharan Africa by providing goods and services which they could not otherwise afford through lack of means”

Our charity commission regulatory number is 1159172 .

Trustee and organisational structure

The constitution requires at least 3 trustees to be appointed, Trustees serve until they resign, or their term ends without renewal. All our trustees have helped start the charity and are not remunerated for their trusteeship. All our trustees are unpaid.

Trustees are provided with information about the charity law and given an extensive formal induction to the charities work. Al trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting, new trustees are appointed by the board of trustees, interviewed, and only appointed if they have the necessary skills and commitment towards the charity’s objectives.

Each trustee takes responsibility for monitoring the activity of an operational area and have regular quarterly meetings with the board to report actions and review.

Chief Executive

The chief executive is responsible for the smooth running of the charity and manages it along with its volunteers on behalf of the trustees. Our chief executive Mr E Angelo is an experienced academic and founder of the charity who has been leading the charity exceptionally. It has made one of the fastest-growing and most impactful charities in Africa, led by young people.
