The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2025.

THE TRUSTEES

The trustees who served the charity during the year are shown on page 2.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The Charity is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and was registered on 10 November 2014.

The charity’s constitution was signed end of October 2014 and is the document that governs the processes we follow.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The overarching aim of the Gender and Education Association is - the advancement of education for the public benefit in gender equality in the field of education with particular reference to curriculum, assessment and examinations and pedagogy and in feminist understandings of, and practices in, gender and education.

This is the broad commitment of the charity, and the way it is delivered on is shaped by the Executive Committee in place at the time, and the kinds of priorities outlined by in-coming Chairs.

During 2024/25, our work focused on the following activities:

The new co-Chairs began working on the GEA publication prize and the GEA thesis price (to be launched at the 2026 conference).
Identifying ways to expand our membership through a series of planned regular blog posts and online events.
During 2024/2025 the executive committee were required to sign up to a role outline document detailing minimum commitments.
The co-chairs continued to work with the GEA conference in 2026
In 2025 GEA launched a new website.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

We planned and launched the GEA thesis and publication prize.
We worked closely with the hosts for the next GEA conference in 2026.
We have worked on driving up the website traffic through a series of regular blogs.
• We launched a new GEA website.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Membership fees remain the charity’s main source of income. Our main outgoings for 2024/25 were paying our administrator and media and communication costs. We invested in bringing our membership records upto-date and ensuring we build the necessary processes for managing this. We were also successful in securing the membership funds from the 2025 conference (University of Manchester).

Continue to increase membership numbers
Continue to diversify our membership
Consider how we might streamline GEA in order to make it more manageable for the co-chairs.
Strengthen our web presence
Support the 2026 Gender & Education conference
Draft a GEA publication prize and GEA thesis prize judging criteria and process.
Launch and circulate the GEA publication prize and the GEA thesis prize.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees ’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the surplus or deficit of the charity for that period.

In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.

The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and which enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
