Trsutees Annual Report & Financial Statements FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2025
Objectives and activities
Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document
To promote and advance the education of the public in music, particularly young people , and people from
disadvantaged communities, in particular but not exclusively refugees, asylum seekers, new migrants, and those migrants of limited means.
To promote for the public benefit the study of music and other artistic activities in promoting intergrative and supportive communities, and publishing the useful results of such research.
Vision and mission
Our vision is for a society where all refugee, asylum seeking and migrant children and families have the opportunity to participate in musical activity to the extent they wish to. In doing so, they can experience the transformative benefits of music and creativity, and their human right to artistic experiences and expression is upheld.
Our mission is to provide relief and respite to refugee, asylum seeking and migrant children and families through music. In doing so, we aim to be an anchor in a chaotic and challenging world. We offer space and time outside the challenges of everyday existence a nurturing place for children to build friendships, express themselves and have their voices heard.
Our main activities:
-
Leading music projects at and with Action for Refugees in Lewisham
-
Leading music projects at and with Future Foundations (formerly Love to Learn, as was known in this period) Homework Club for young refugees and asylum seekers at the Katherine Low Settlement, Wandsworth
-
Supporting young refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants to access other music making opportunities in London
-
Training music leaders, sharing knowledge about our work with the wider music education community
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
This year Fairbeats Music worked in community settings with our partners at Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) and the Katherine Low Settlement in Wandsworth (KLS). We led music-making activities in these settings including singing, fife ukulele, creative music sessions, song-writing and music production (including looping and mixing). Participants were also supported to take part in additional music-making opportunities including ongoing instrumental lessons, performances recordings and trips to cultural organisations.

15 young people took part in music sessions over 12 weeks in term-time sessions at Love To Learn (L2L, now known as Future Foundations) at the Katherine Low Settlement (KLS), Battersea. Young people created a song with the theme of ‘celebration’ at the end of the autumn term 2024.
15 young people aged 11-16 took part in 6 sessions through Future Leaders AFRIL at Lewisham Music, Deptford Lounge and Radio Lewisham. The latter was a radio show produced and aired on the same day of the session. Our young people created a radio show and learned interview techniques. The sessions at Lewisham music and Deptford Lounge were early developments of their short film and song about their relationship and connection to music.
12 young people took part in a new pilot programme of Future Leaders with KLS , which included song and lyric-writing music production, vocal recording and crafting as well as a visit to community music and creative arts charity Raw Material and the musical Hamilton.

Reserves Policy
The Trustees aim to maintain sufficient reserves to ensure financial stability and the continued delivery of the Charity’s objectives.
A target has been set at a minimum of six months’ operating expenditure, reflecting the Charity’s funding profile and operational needs. This provides a buffer to manage financial risks and maintain operations during periods of income uncertainty.
The level of reserves is reviewed quarterly by the Trustees and adjusted as necessary to ensure it remains appropriate.
