MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF TRUSTEES
2020 was an extraordinary year for all of us. A year in which the Covid-19 pandemic caused the death of hundreds of thousands of people, wreaked economic havoc and changed the life of many of us ever. The pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the communities we work in and limited the aid support we provide to the deprived people.
Despite these challenges, Kafel team worked diligently and successfully delivered training programs Maher under the umbrella and provided basic tools and kits for the graduates to start up a selfemployment business.
I am, on behalf of all Kafel aid trustees so proud of the way we performed last year in terms of the quality and skills we trained the needy people which made a positive change in their lives and turned them into productive individuals. Indeed, without the help of Allah Ssubhanah-Wataala and the generous support from our donors, we would not be able to provide such noble training which had a real impact on their life and the life of their families.
Finally, Jazakum Allahu Khiaran for everyone involved in our aid work and urge you to do more and more to change the life of needy people around the world.

ERITREA
Bordered by Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti, it occupies a strategic area in the Horn of Africa but remains one of the most secretive states in the world.
Eritrea is a one-party state in which national legislative elections have been repeatedly postponed. According to Human Rights Watch, the government's human rights record is considered among the worst in the world.
Despite a peace deal with Ethiopia in July 2018, which inspired hope for reform, the government has not enacted meaningful changes in the system (Human Rights Watch )
Due to the current economic and political situations in Eritrea, young Eritreans flee from their country towards neighbouring countries such as Sudan, Yemen and Djibouti. In Eritrea, the compulsory military service, torture, arbitrary detention made it impossible for many Eritreans to remain in their country which resulted in
making Eritreans one of the largest numbers of refugees who attempt to reach other countries and seek safer places.

ENDOWMENT
In order to generate a sustainable and constant stream of income to support our charitable activities in perpetuity, Kafel Aid management had always a clear and ambitious strategy to obtain an endowment and by the help of Allah and the generosity of our donors around the world the dream came to reality when Kafel Aid charity purchased an endowment in Birmingham costing more than £370,000.00. It is estimated to have a constant income of around £3000.00 a month which will support Maher programs for a long term.

MAHER PROGRAM
Having intensive consultation with charities in Sudan and after profound analyses of the refugees’ situations, we decided to provide long-term and unique aid support which will help in generating constant Income for the deprived refugees for both female and male through enhancing employability or providing machines and tools for them to establish a micro small business.
Maher is an innovative program aims to help Eritrean refugees to acquire well-respected qualifications in order to decrease the unemployment within refugees; particularly amongst youths who desperately fight for their basic human rights and their dignity. All programs under the umbrella of Maher or the complementary program (MyProject) aim to help the most disadvantaged Eritrean refugees and the poor people to generate a sustainable income through practical training and granting basic tools thereafter. In November 2017, 10 Eritrean refugees benefited from Mobile maintenance training course sponsored by Kafel Aid and provided basic kits for each participant to start his small business. Due to the fruitful impact of kind of training, Kafel carried on various practical training in Mobile Maintenance during 2018 and 2019.
We worked hard to assist Eritrean refugees around the world so we established vocational training programs in the UK to help refugees in adapting the UK regulations and equip them with the decent skills to start work.
In cooperation with Eritrean Muslim Community Association (EMCA) in London, Kafel Aid organised training workshops in women wellbeing. The course included activities such as:
- Preventive ways against Cancer and diabetes Tips on how to lose weight Exercises to have a healthy body A healthy, balanced diet Workshop in Behaviour Management for parents
Kafel works side by side with local organisations to help Eritreans living in the United Kingdom to be integrated into society. This year, Kafel Aid organised a workshop for Mums and Dads in how to manage children behaviour. This event targeted the wellbeing of Eritrean parents on dealing with challenging behaviour.
Kafel Aid has been working together with local partners in Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen and UK to improve the skills of the Eritrean refugees through vocational training which will have a positive impact in their lives and the life of their families.

MYPROJECT PROGRAM
The positive impact of our vocational training on refugees could not be perfectly successful unless we provide the essential means for the refugees to generate income for themselves by utilising the acquired practical knowledge from Maher to work and support themselves and their families financially. Therefore, Kafel trustees realised the importance of granting graduates some kits and tools to start with, Kafel stablished My Project program which can be considered to be an auxiliary and an extension to the aforementioned program (Maher).

- It is well known in Sudan for patients to travel from town to another seeking necessary medical aid which in some cases the hardship of the journey causes medical conditions for such patients to escalate to emergency level or the death due to unavailability of medical services in the right time. Kafel Aid trustees understand the chronic need for medical professionals such as doctors, nurses and Emergency Care practitioners (ECP) in the rural areas hence we took it upon our shoulder and started, in addition to the Primary health Course we did before, to train 25 of young refugees and from the local community on Nursing vocational training and handed over the basic equipment provide medical support for the community.

There are more than 7000 families of Eritrean Refugees living in Djibouti, most of these families have no means of support and depends on the UNHCR or other national and international charity organizations to provide them with their basic needs. Most of those families’ members are youngsters who did not have the opportunity to attend regular education courses in Eritrea neither in Djibouti, thus they do not have the required skills to join the employment market in the hosting country. Therefore, our aim was to provide these youngsters with the right skills so they can have better chances to find jobs and provide a decent life for themselves and their families. After completing the training, we gave out 20 units of AC maintenance kits to - the beneficiaries to help them start self employment businesses and benefit society.

Vocational Training Project N U R S I N G ( Y E M E N )
Nursing has been always one of the most important careers around the world and its importance has increased lately due to the current international Pandemic. Yemen has been suffering from constant years of civil war that has destroyed the healthcare system - in the entire country. Eritrean refugees in Al Khokha refugee camp lacked the minimum health care requirements before the war and the situation worsened with the current - war. Families in Al Khokha refugee camp used to send their patients to the nearest villages that might have considerable health care prior to the war, but now these families have no other choice but to suffer without any health care because of the siege that has been imposed by the fighting militias in the past few years.
Therefore, this project aimed to train young Eritrean refugees males and females to ensure that the refugees can have the health care they need when they need it, also to provide these youngsters with a professional career that can enable them to support themselves and their community in the future. With the help of Allah, 20 young Eritrean refugees completed this training and obtained the basic kits to start providing their services to the local needy families.

The seeds of empathy, caring, and compassion are present from early stages in a person’s life, but that to become caring, ethical people, children need mature and educated adults to help them at every stage of childhood to nurture these seeds into full development. Raising kids is one of the toughest and most fulfilling jobs in the world — and the one for which you might feel the least prepared therefore KFEL Aid organised in March 2021 a very informative workshop for parents to train and build up parenting skills and help them resolve any concerning matters in this regard.
-
The main topics and issues this workshop focus on were:
-
How to develop caring, loving relationships with kids

With the right kind of support, refugees can thrive and give back to the communities that have welcomed them. At a time when 68.5 million people are uprooted around the world, solidarity with refugees is needed more than ever (UNHCR).
Kafel Aid provided training to 11 migrants to improve their IT skills so that they could, by the end of the course, search for decent jobs which will have an impact on their lives. Based on our expectations, the trainee can build up accurate knowledge and skills with proper confidence after completing this course.
No doubt, such training will help integrate migrants into society. In addition, it gives the protection migrants need to be treated with respect and understanding while having the same rights, opportunities and responsibilities as other members of the society.

- Language barriers can make migrants feel isolated, hopeless and anti social and it might even lead to depression. Struggling with speaking and comprehension causes difficulty in making career progress. For this reason, learning a language has been important for Kafel Aid to help provide IELTS courses for migrants and new arrivals free of charge. We helped 24 migrants to take part in such a course which will help them integrate into the job market or continue studying in English speaking countries smoothly. We urge donors to help us in promoting such vital training for it will benefit the migrants and the society where they live.
