Structure, governance and management

The MediOliver Foundation is a registered charity, number 1,159,021, and operates under a constitution.

The charity is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Association and was first registered on 30 October 2014. The MediOliver Foundation (the Foundation) was formed in memory of Medi Oliver Mehra, who died aged 11 on 15 July 2014 following a tragic horse-riding accident.

The trustees are family members. All trustees give of their time freely and no trustee remuneration was paid in the period.

The constitution provides that there must be at least three charity trustees but there is no maximum number. The constitution provides for appointment of trustees following a resolution at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.

Objectives and activities for the public beneft

The Foundation’s objectives as set out in its constitution are to advance the education and health of children and young people and also to relieve sickness and poverty in the same group. Although not so limited by its constitution, the Foundation exist to advance these causes in Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania in particular.

Achievements

At the trustees meeting on 22 February 2015, the trustees approved a policy providing decisionmaking criteria to inform decisions about which individuals, groups or projects to support to further the Foundation’s objectives where one or more options have been identified which could further one of the objectives. In short, the criteria provide that the trustees will take decisions on which option to support given the resources raised and taking account the following: geographical reach; impact; local need; sustainability; direct control; equality and risk. By the 28 August 2019 the

trustees completed their first project which brought water, sanitation and hygiene to Gey Talt and Gey Shola’s, Ethiopia and was delivered in partnership with International Medical Corps (IMC).

Performance during the year

During the year we have been waiting for our volunteer illustrator to have time to complete the 8th book in the Children’s book series we have created which hopefully will provide a long term source of funding. This will enable us in 2025 to curate a book launch.

Financial review

The Foundation’s work is reliant on income raised via fund-raising activities as well as other any other donations received.

In the accounting period ending 31 March 2024 donations the charity was effectively dormant in terms of active fund raising with the children’s book project in the planning, test phase.

Financial statements have been prepared by accountants Longmires Business Accountants.

The Foundation has HMRC recognition as a charity gift aid purposes.

In the same accounting period no staff costs and overhead expenses have been claimed.

Trustees have received no remuneration or expenses.

Currently all funds held by the charity are unrestricted general funds.
