YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2020

TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT

Introduction

The trustees present their fourth annual report covering the year ended 30 September 2020.

Constitution

The charity was created by way of a trust deed executed in February 2014 with the two remaining founding trustees indicated on page 1. Subsequently, the charity was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales in September 2014. Finally, the charity was converted to a foundation charitable incoporated organisation (FCIO) in February 2021.

The trustees do not serve for any fixed term.

Objects

Educational charity involving sporting activities within schools and the execution of the two grant-aided projects referred to below.

Public Benefit

This requirement is met, in the view of the trustees, by way of the involvement of schools in the public sector in the various projects supported by the charity. There is no personal benefit whatsoever for any of the trustees arising out of any of the charity's activities.

Trustees

The nine trustees who each served for the entire period are as listed on page 1. All nine trustees took an active part in the charity's projects in the year. However, Mr John Miller, Mr John McVeigh and Rev Derek Ventner all retired from the charity on 1 November 2020. All three retirees were thanked warmly for their service to the charity.

Review of Activities

The charity continued its activities in the year with partnership arrangements with groups of schools in West Yorkshire together with the two grant-aided projects referred to below.

Grants Awarded

During 2017, the charity was successful in bids for specific funding from the National Lottery, being awarded separate three-year grants from two of the National Lottery's funds, the first grant in February 2017 and the second in August 2017. The first project related to the compilation and publication of a history of Batley Football Club from its foundation in 1880 to the present day. The other project related to work being carried out to integrate the white and South Asian communities within the area via the football club and its facilities.

Financial Review

During the year, the charity raised £46,244 and expended £46,824 on charitable activities in the period, leaving a small deficit of £580 for the year. Within that figure, there was a deficit in respect of the two restricted funds combined of £8,710 leaving a surplus of £8,130 on unrestricted funds to be added to the free reserves.

TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT

Reserves

The free reserves available for future years are £23,381 made up of the reserves brought forward of £15,251 plus the surplus in the seventh period of the amount identified in previous section.

Reserves Policy

The trustees have set as their free reserves policy a target of £15,000 being the equivalent of two years charitable expenditure.

Risk Management

The charity's main risk relates to funding, in particular having sufficient funds to support an ambitious programme with various school partnerships. Steps are being taken to ensure the appropriate level of funding becomes available.

Future Plans

| These involve extending the number of schools partnerships in year eight and beyond, together with completing the two grant-aided projects referred to above during 2021.

Trustees’ Declaration

In accordance with charity law, as trustees, we certify that:

So far as we are aware, there is no relevant financial information of which the charity's independent examiner is unaware. We have taken all the steps we ought to have taken in order to make ourselves aware of any such information and to establish that the charity's independent examiner is aware of that information.

Independent Examiner

Devshi Chothani, Chartered Accountant, was appointed as the charity's independent examiner in 2015. He has expressed his willingness to continue in that capacity.

Approval of the Report

The report was approved by the trustees on 22 February 2021 and is signed on their behalf by Mr Andrew J Winner (Chair of Trustees).

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT

TO THE TRUSTEES OF BATLEY SPORTING CHARITABLE TRUST FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2020

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the Financial Statements. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility as the Independent Examiner:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the and a comparison of the Financial Statements presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

in connection with my examination no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that, in any material respect, S the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or © the Financial Statements did not accord with the accounting records; or 9 the Financial Statements did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of Financial Statements set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, other than any requirement that the Financial Statements give a "true and fair" view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. | have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. 2 ieapci AA ELse — = Date: DEVSHICHOTHAN| —it#w™s Chartered Accountant Director of DBF Associates Ltd 10 Park Place Manchester M4 4EY Page 5
