ABC is a small grant funding organisation committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability. Sound management of donor funds is a priority for the Board and we are confident that the policies and procedures introduced to protect and manage potential financial risk are thorough and robust.

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant, about:

Having identified need/beneficiaries and grass roots projects that meet our criteria we are now working with a number of local projects and community based agencies to address the need across 3-4 countries.

Every project in receipt of funding from ABC Africa is required to sign a • relationship with any related Memorandum of Understanding which clearly lays out each party’s parties; responsibilities. We require financial accountability for purchases made • trustees’ consideration of against the grant as well as quantitive and qualitative assessment of the impact of the grant. Future funding is dependant on satisfactory receipt of major risks and the system financial accounts and monitoring.

We continue to focus on raising funds in order to commit grants as well as apply for match funding in partnership with projects overseas.

Our ‘portfolio’ of projects continues to grow and we now have an established relationship with projects in 3 countries.

Covid continues to have a significant impact on in country operations and that is reflected in overseas spend this year

Section C Objectives and activities

The relief of poverty, sickness and distress and the advancement of education of orphaned and vulnerable children in Sub Saharan Africa.

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

ABC Africa wants to make a difference to as many orphaned and vulnerable children as we can by simply and directly providing food, medication and education to orphaned and vulnerable children in Sub Saharan Africa. ABC Africa supports communities and grass roots projects to feed, educate and provide health care for their children by: providing nutritious food through school feeding projects, school porridge clubs and food by prescription programmes providing medication and health prevention supplies providing school supplies, transport and tuition.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

DRC, Namibia Investing in early childhood education has a far higher impact on addressing inequality and poverty than attempts made later in life. However children in the most disadvantaged quintiles of their societies are at the greatest risk of being deprived during this critical early period and there are few more disadvantaged than those living in the Democratic Resettlement Project (DRC). The Democratic Resettlement Community (DRC) is a rapidly growing informal settlement on the outskirts of Swakopmund, Namibia, lacking many basic services with shacks built from reclaimed rubbish from the city landfill. Carers, who are focused on day to day survival, are in no position to provide early learning opportunities and understandably children from these households are poorly prepared for primary school and begin their education at a significant and damaging disadvantage. The DRC School Project and Community Centre is a beacon of hope for the children and families in this area. Not only does it provide care and basic primary education for Namibia's most vulnerable children but it aims to bridge the attainment gap by providing quality education. ABC Africa supports the DRC Education Project by funding the teacher’s salaries.

ABC also funded the establishment for a food programme to purchase and prepare food for children living in the DRC

In 2023 we provided sponsorship for an ex pupil of the DRC to attend Walvis Bay University, Namibia where she is studying to be a teacher

Uzima, Tanzania

The ‘Food First’ programme continues to run. Many of those visiting the centre come come from single mother households with women finding work where they can. Protein is the first nutrient to be cut from diets when families do not have enough money for food. ABC Africa have continued to fund the Uzima Centre’s “Food First” programme for 66 of the most vulnerable children. These children receive a nutritious meal of beans, rice and green vegetables, education on low cost high impact nutrition, their weight is monitored and the same children receive 2 kilos of dried beans per month to take home. The services provided through Food First are the means of getting the children to attend the centre, build a connection with the centre so that they can access the centre’s educational programme as well as the psycho-social support the centre offers.

SHAMBA, Estawatini (Swaziland)

Shamba works in local communities to help deliver childhood education and development services for the most vulnerable children. Throughout the financial year ABC Africa has provided a healthy breakfast for 1 of their community pre-schools

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

The focus of our grant making is based on addressing the consequences of living in absolute poverty; lack of food, medication and education. Other than bank charges and web domain fees we operate as a zero admin charity and so volunteering be it Trustee time, gifts in kind etc is the life blood of our organisation. Our aim is to formalise the volunteering going forward.

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:

UK donors are our principal source of funds. Funds are raised through our supporter base. Support comes from awareness raising events.

Periodically we apply for grants so as to offer projects more sustainable funds.

We are registered with on line shopping platforms which gives us some funding as well as Just Giving and Charities Trust

We have a rigorous system in place for the allocation of funds and all potential applicants for funds are assessed in relation to their capita to meet our charitable objects and ensure full compliance with our accounting and monitoring requirements.

Our trustees committed to funding administration costs for the first 2 years. Since then our only administration costs have been bank charges which are unavoidable and the web site domain - however the web site domain is paid for by the trustees
