||Using a grant from the Big Lottery, we obtained a 25yr lease from NPT
Council for the derelict Tennis Courts area on Bryn Recreation Ground.
During 2023, we maintained these grounds, arranged the annual safety
inspection and organised activities to make full use of these facilities.
Having established a 4-mileHeritage Walk at the edge of the village,
starting in the Bryn Nature reserve picnic area and returning to this point.
The path has been kept clear of fallen trees, undergrowth etc. Further
stones had to be laid in sections to bridge steams and bogs and drainage
ditches dug by hand. Way markers and signage have been maintained or
replaced as required. All this work was undertaken by voluntary members
of BRAG. The route continues to be maintained on a monthly basis.
BRAG also maintains a picnic area and miners memorial located at the
start of this walk.
In the past, we undertook a number of one off activities such as installing
a memorial to the memory of local miners and organising the official
opening of this. The old coal dram rescued from the school closure the
year before was used as part of this memorial. We continue to maintain
this memorial site.
We organise the Beast of Bryn Trail run each year, which bring over 500
runners to the village to take part in this charity run.
We manage the running of the Village Community centre for the village.
Other activities include:
•
Helping with the running of the Richard Burton Race, attracting
over three thousand runners and raising money for local charities.|

Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main** We have also worked with other organisations to help deliver many other **achievements of the charity** activities for the village such as monthly walks. **during the year** We have worked alongside Afan Environment group to help protect the environment in the surrounding area. We were unable to deliver the village newsletter due to Covid restrictions but it appears that most of the village are now happy to receive information via the website, social media and the community centre notice board. We continue to develop the village website at https://brynporttalbot.wordpress.com/ We delivered children’s events for Easter, Summer, Halloween and Christmas.

We had initially installed a Trim Trail in the park and maintained this each year. However, it had reached the point where it needed to be completely replaced. In 2024 we obtained a £10,000 grant from the Lottery Community Fund, which enabled us to do this. A summary of the years events can be found on the website at https://brynporttalbot.wordpress.com/2025/01/26/brag-in-2024/

## **Section E Financial review**

The trustees have considered a reserves policy and felt it is necessary to **Brief statement of the** keep £5,000 to cover any potential damage to assets such as tennis **charity’s policy on reserves** court nets and to sustain BRAG through any short-term drought in grant funding.

£5000 would cover running costs such as insurance, lease rents, printing, etc. for about two years.

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

• The organisation had good funding from the Beast of Bryn 2022 event resulting in a £2,000 improvement in our account balance over the year. However, the company managing the race, Run Afan, ceased trading after the 2023 event and failed to pay BRAG the money they took for the event. BRAG took on the full organisation of the Beast in 2024 but did have to purchase many items of equipment that had previously been supplied by Run Afan. After obtaining a government levelling up grant for £7,000 we were able to continue to run the event having made many one off purchases from the grant, which will not be required in 2025.

- Organise the annual events such as Beast of Bryn, Party in the Park, Halloween, Christmas, etc.
