## **Section C Objectives and activities**

The objects of BRAG are:

The promotion for the benefit of the public of urban or rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation (and in particular in the village of Bryn) by all or any of the following means:

## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

(a) the maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities: (b) the preservation of buildings or sites of historic or architectural importance:

(c) the provision of recreational facilities for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, have need of such facilities:

(d) the protection or conservation of the environment: (e) the promotion of public safety and prevention of crime: (f) Such other means as may from time to time be determined subject to the prior written consent of the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales."

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects**

Using a grant from the Big Lottery, we obtained a 25yr lease from NPT Council for the derelict Tennis Courts area on Bryn Recreation Ground. During 2021, we maintained these grounds, arranged the annual safety inspection and organised activities to make full use of these facilities.

Having established a 4-mileHeritage Walk at the edge of the village, starting in the Bryn Nature reserve picnic area and returning to this point. The path has been kept clear of fallen trees, undergrowth etc. Further stones had to be laid in sections to bridge steams and bogs and drainage ditches dug by hand. Way markers and signage have been maintained or replaced as required. All this work was undertaken by voluntary members of BRAG. The route continues to be maintained on a monthly basis. BRAG also maintains a picnic area and miners memorial located at the start of this walk.

In the past, we undertook a number of one off activities such as installing a memorial to the memory of local miners and organising the official opening of this. The old coal dram rescued from the school closure the year before was used as part of this memorial. We continue to maintain this memorial site.

With Covid restriction, the Bryn IT Club was suspended but help for individuals has continued as and when required.

Other activities include:

March **2012**

3

- Helping with the running of the Richard Burton Race, attracting almost two thousand runners and raising money for local charities.

- Support of social clubs in the village such as a Heritage Club, an over 50’s club, a Bowling Club, a Cricket Team, etc.

- Community events such as a Halloween Party, a Christmas Event and an annual Party in the Park.

- We also produce and deliver a village newsletter and run a village website and social media groups.

In planning and delivering all the individual activities and plans for the year the Trustees have considered and had regard to the Public Benefit guidance issued by the Charity Commission.

Section D Achievements and performance

With Covid restrictions, many of our normal activities were **Summary of the main** restricted during 2021. **achievements of the charity during the year**

We have also worked with other organisations to help deliver many other activities for the village such as monthly walks, including an evening walk during the summer months.

We have worked alongside Afan Environment group to help protect the environment in the surrounding area.

We were unable to deliver the village newsletter due to Covid restrictions. However, we have continued to deliver news and information via social media and village notice boards. We moved the village website from the BT hosted site to the - https://bryn porttalbot.chessck.co.uk/ location as BT no longer provided the service.

We also helped village residents by providing support with things like medical prescription delivery and support of the vulnerable.

We delivered children’s events for Christmas and Halloween.

## **Section E Financial review**

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

The trustees have considered a reserves policy and felt it is necessary to keep £5,000 to cover any potential damage to assets such as tennis court nets and to sustain BRAG through any short-term drought in grant funding.

£5000 would cover running costs such as insurance, lease rents, printing, etc. for about two years.

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**



The organisation has had limited sources of income during the pandemic resulting in a £900 reduction in our account balance over the year.
