|---|---|
||Using a grant from the Big Lottery, we obtained a 25yr lease from NPT
Council for the derelict Tennis Courts area on Bryn Recreation Ground.
During 2020, we maintained these grounds, arranged the annual safety
inspection and organised activities to make full use of these facilities.
Having establishment of a 4-mile heritage walk at the edge of the village,
starting in the Bryn Nature reserve picnic area and returning to this point.
The path has been kept clear of fallen trees, undergrowth etc. Further
stones had to be laid in sections to bridge steams and bogs and drainage
ditches dug by hand. Way markers and signage have been maintained or
replaced as required. All this work was undertaken by voluntary members
of BRAG. The route continues to be maintained on a monthly basis.
BRAG also maintains a picnic and memorial located at the start of this
walk.
In the past, we undertook a number of one off activities such as installing
a memorial to the memory of local miners and organising the official
opening of this. The old coal dram rescued from the school closure the
year before was used as part of this memorial. We continue to maintain
this memorial site.
We have now been running a Bryn IT Club in the local community centre
for several years to help anyone but especially older people, to overcome
the challenges of a digital era and help prevent digital exclusion. In 2019
this was extended to become the Bryn and Cwmafan IT club, drawing
members from a much wider base and working with the Neath and Port
Talbot digital inclusion officer.|

Other activities include:

- Helping with the running of the Richard Burton Race, attracting almost two thousand runners and raising money for local charities.

- Support of social clubs in the village such as an IT Club, a Heritage Club, an over 50’s club, a Bowling Club, a Cricket Team, etc.

- Community events such as a Halloween Party, a Christmas Event and an annual Party in the Park.

- We also produce and deliver a bi-monthly village newsletter and run a village website and social media groups.

In planning and delivering all the individual activities and plans for the year the Trustees have considered and had regard to the Public Benefit guidance issued by the Charity Commission.

Section D Achievements and performance

With Covid restrictions, many of our normal activities were restricted **Summary of the main** during 2020. We started the year with most of our normal activities and **achievements of the charity** when things were eased in the summer, we had an unveiling of the two **during the year** defibrillators we had installed in the village. These had a value of over £4,000 for defibrillators, housings and installation but thanks to charitable discounts; they were installed for much less. We have also worked with other organisations to help deliver many other activities for the village such as monthly walks, including an evening walk during the summer months. We have worked alongside Afan Environment group to help protect the environment in the surrounding area. We were unable to deliver the village newsletter due to Covid restrictions. However, we have continued to deliver news and information via social media and village notice boards. We also helped village residents by providing support with things like medical prescription delivery and support of the vulnerable.

## **Section E Financial review**

The trustees have considered a reserves policy and felt it is necessary to **Brief statement of the** keep £5,000 to cover any potential damage to assets such as tennis **charity’s policy on reserves** court nets and to sustain BRAG through any short-term drought in grant funding. £5000 would cover running costs such as insurance, lease rents, printing, etc. for about two years.

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

• The organisation has had limited sources of income during the pandemic resulting in a £2k reduction in our account balance over the year.

## **Section F Other optional information**

In future years, when the pandemic restrictions allow, we intend to continue the regular activities as listed in this report plus planned new activities that include:

- Introduce Sports coaching on the village playing fields

- Organise the annual events such as Party in the Park, Halloween, Christmas, etc.

- Work with other groups to deliver sports, protect the environment, deliver supervised walks, etc.

- Protect and publicise the local heritage of the area.

## Report to the Trustees and Members of Bryn Residents Action Group

Charities in England and Wales are regulated by the Charity Commission for England and Wales and are subject to the requirements set by the Charities Act 1993. Under section 43 of the Charities Act 1993 an audit for a financial year is required if the:

charity’s gross income in that year exceeds £500,000, or

aggregate value of the charity’s assets, without deducting any liabilities, exceeds £3.26m and its gross income exceeds £250,000.

Charities which are not required to have an audit of their accounts are required to have an independent examination if their gross income exceeds £25,000. In addition for charities with gross income exceeding £250,000 the independent examiner will need to hold a relevant professional qualification.

Bryn Residents Action Group is not required to undertake an independent examination as its gross income is less than £25,000

As Bryn Residents Action Group gross income is less than £500,000 and there are no assets the charity is not required to carry out an audit as required by the Companies Act 2006.
