With Ihe Ctntre ck)sed and wilh time on my hands whilst furbughed. rt wa5 time lo pul a plaN inlo action. I had
been thinking lor a while about taking on a big challenge walk lo support thè Cènlre and seemed the ideal time. I
began Iraining haffj lo lake on Ihe 129 miles of the Shropshire Way Stsuth¢rn Loop. The Idea behind the project
was lo promole ￿e new Shropshire Way Long Oislance Palh, raisè somè much-naod8d funds for the Centre
ar*d take on an exciting personal chalenge. The d8ie was sèt lor Jurba 5th and the challenge was onl 129 rnlles
non-stop in under 40 hour$- ¢outyJ il be dtsne?
Wèll, I guess you know Ihe resl. Ihe challèn9e was completed, and although not quite wilhin the lime, and I
found the arnounl of love lor the Centre Iwuly huThbbling. Whai me g￿n9 through the dark moments wag the
support ol so many friends ol Ihe Cenlre The first picture atjove shows Charlès Edwards, our Chair. meeting me
at the sumfftil of Titlerslone Clee Hill. Al this p￿￿1. I had been through my second consecutive night without
sleep, bul with only 16 miles 10 90 Irom there. I knew I could do il. The second picture was laken al Ihe finish, bul
it fails to show Ihe 100 or so p￿p1a who had come oul lo support me- truly a grandstand finish.
The evenl obviously captured your imagination with over 2QYJ donations to Ihe JuslGiving page lo18lling nearly
£10K. The Money Is being usèd to help support the development of the meadows. My sin￿re thanks to
everyone who supportèd me and donaied 10 the cause.

First some sad news. As I'm sure many ol you know. our much loved and hardWork￿g Groundsman, Dovo
Jones, was taken ill at Ihe héight ol Ihe pandemic and sadly passed away after a short illness. Dave had worked
at the Cenlrtr lor over six years and was a well-known figure. A￿layS willing lo help and with an ability lo fix pretty
much anything. Dave is vÈry m[￿h miss8d by all his CO& workers and rnany of roguiar visil¢rs with whom h8
regularly shared thè nèws ol the (Jay. RIP Dave.
The decision was takèn, lolknving Dave's passmg. to hire a Meadows Ran9er. ¢harged with tsking forward our
Conservalion work, in¢reasing Iha Scope ol our vdunteering and ensuriThJ our grovnds werè 8ttractiv8 and

We were delighted to have appoinled lan Chee5et¥)rough who has a w8allh ol èxperience in conservalion
management, having worked with Shropshire Wildlife Trust. Field Studies Council and N311tinal Trust. He is also
Ihe County Recorder for bees and wasps and an experl on dragonfi￿S His prioritles are the iestoralion ol our
Ir3diliollal hay meadows ènd to begm a systernaiic programme of coppicing in our woodland areas. Wè wèlcome
